Q & A / Re: I Just Swallowed My Heart
« on: November 01, 2006, 11:48:33 PM »
Thanks everyone. He is very young. I just let him out today, and he learned how to jump onto my bed. They can jump up to 6 feet correct? Just when they get a little older? He only does it when he has a good time outside the cage. Also, he likes to wedge between the dresser and the wall, is this normal?

I have a bad feeling he is going to commit suicide. He keeps on doing it. I don't understand. The hammock is blocking him from hitting a hard surface, but he jumps on the rail at the top of the cage.

He did it again, he jumped to the tallest pot of his cage, all of his legs holding onto the cages rails, and falls back landing on the food bowl. He cried again. But he's not limping or anything. Do I have to buy another chinchilla? I put the hammock back in there to make sure he can't fall on anything hard again and kill himself. How do I fix this problem? I need help! I can't get any sleep from this situation.

Q & A / I Just Swallowed My Heart

My pet Ichigo is a baby chinchilla, and he jumps like a noob. So he is jumping, and wants to come out, but I have work to do and I let him out twice today. He jumps and falls on his tiki hut, and he cries. That scared me half to life! So I let him have a 10 minute run. I removed the hut from that spot and placed it where he can't get hurt again. Nothings broken, he is fine now. Anyone who owns a chinchilla experience this?

Q & A / Re: What's Wrong?

Thanks alot everyone. Great advice. Thanks so much. I have a question about newspaper, under the hay is newspaper, but some flaps stick up through the hay and Ichigo nibbles on it. Is this ok? If not would it be better to just use one large firm fitting newspaper so layers wont pinch through?

Q & A / What's Wrong?
« on: October 17, 2006, 08:48:25 PM »
Hello everyone. I recently purchased Ichigo 3 days ago on Saturday. He is very cute. He is a baby, so I guess he is still not comfortable yet, but I would let him out for about an hour, and if he is good a couple more minutes. Since today, I let him out and when I put him back in he would make soft cherps, and attempt to stick his nose through the cage. I don't let him out long as I want because he is still learning his name, scolding commands, and rewarding commands.

I just sat by the cage, and he stuck his nose out, and reached for me. So I went by him, and he sniffed then he teethed on me. It was a little more tighter on my skin than before. Is this something wrong?

So I need some help. How can I teach him "No!", and such and more imprtantly his name "Ichigo"? Also, is the semi-aggrresive biting normal? :)
