Q & A / Re: New Owner In Need Of Advice
« on: September 12, 2007, 03:16:40 PM »
Sounds like you're doing a great job so far. It was a good move getting that cedar out of his cage. That stuff is toxic to a chin.

You might as well remove the plastic wheel now. If he does start to use it it will break in a month anyway. The plastic levels should also be replaced with untreated pine boards. Anything plastic isn't good for them to chew on. Make sure there is good material in his cage to chew on to keep his teeth warn down. Pumice stones are good and untreated pine is always safe. Some woods are not safe so before you give him anything make sure it's safe.

Also check to see if he's on good food. Most of the stuff pet stores carry isn't very healthy. Also make sure that he always has timothy hay.

Q & A / Re: Whiskers!
« on: September 04, 2007, 02:25:01 PM »
If your chin is still a youngster and there were other kits in the litter then one of his siblings might have chewed on his whiskers. I had one litter where one male chewed off nearly all the whiskers off one side of his brothers face, which made him look really rediculous for quite a while until they grew back.

The one with no front teeth should be fine with her pellets the way they are. Chins don't chew food with their front teeth, just like people dont. Their front teeth are a utility to take chunks off of larger pieces of food, but since the pellets are already bite sized it doesn't matter. If she didn't have any molars either, then she'd be in trouble.

I use one of those True Reveal GE bulbs. It works great for pictures, you won't get that yellow tinge to everything.

It's a bit hard to tell from those pictures, is the cut deep? He may need stiches if it's a deep cut. It doesn't look infected, which is good. I'd put some antibiotic ointment on it and just keep an eye on it for signs of infection.

She was born a few weeks ago. Her mom was a pink white and her dad was a homozygous ebony and she came out with the coolest markings.

The site is at my hosting company and their service is about 5 dollars a month for it. The actual data for the site is only a few kilobytes. I would probably need about 2000 chins before I'd have to upgrade to a larger database. I've got 14 chins right now, but with a few modifications I could make the site scale to thousands.

Was the shaking noticable to the eye or was it more like a vibration that you could feel? I've got a chin that will do that. It's usually right after I take him out for play time. He sits real still for a while and vibrates. Then he runs off and there's a big pile of poo where he was sitting.

North East USA / Light Ebony Kit - Pittsburgh
« on: January 31, 2007, 11:30:30 AM »
I've got a very sweet light ebony for sale. She's just over 8 weeks old right now. Her father was a homozygous ebony and her mother was standard. Both parents are very mild mannered which has made her a pretty calm kit. She'll let you hold her with very little protest. I'm asking $85 for her.

He is better now, it's still a little puffy due to all of his previous scratching. I'm keeping him on the artificial tears and antibiotic drops until Wendesday. After that I'm going to give him the artificial tears twice a week and after dust baths. If he gets another one after this then he's going to the vet.

We only use the antibactierial when it's infected. We do treatment twice a day for a week, by then it's usually clear.

We've been using anti bacterial drops twice a day after we flush it out with artificial tears.
