Cages / Customize a Critter Nation 162
« on: September 19, 2011, 07:44:51 PM »
Ciao everybody,

any suggestion about how to "close" the back of a critter nation 162 so the "poop" and everything else doesn't fall on the floor?

Anybody has done this before?

Thank you soooooo much, ciao!
Mike

Cages / Potty training...
« on: September 19, 2011, 07:40:48 PM »
Hi everybody!

I have 4 chinchillas - two boys and two girls, in separate cages - and I would like to "potty train" them and finally get rid of the bedding.

How can I do it? Any suggestion? What's the best "strategy"?

Please help me!!!!  :)

Ciao ciao,
Mike

Thank you very much everybody!
I guess I will try a few different solutions to see which one works better for me and...the Chins...
Again...thanks for the ideas!

General Chat / Alternative to "bedding"?
« on: February 20, 2011, 03:46:02 PM »
Hi everybody.
I have 2 beautiful Chins running around their spacious Critter Nation 162 all night long, and so every morning I need to spend quite some time removing all bedding fell down on the floor around their quarters.
Is there any alternative to the traditional setting "Plastic tray + bedding"? I was thinking about getting rid of the bedding and the plastic trays, replacing everything with custom-made wood trays. Does this make sense?
Or the only alternative is just to apply some sort of "barriers" on the side of the cage?
Thank you very much!
Mike

I understand your concerns and I really appreciate your suggestions.
My girlfriend and I recently got our first two 6-months old Chins (both male, don't worry!  :) ) and we definitely love them.
We tried to create a comfortable and hospitable environment for them to live in, with plenty of room. Enough for some more Chins...
We've been reading and studying a lot about them and of course we feel that the next step could be breeding them.
Surely we don't want to make any silly mistake. We are not in a rush to start breeding but we have more than one cage and we may decide to get a couple of females (the right ones!  :) ) if we "run into them".
Among everything else I read about the "Lethal Factor" and some other health issues in the offsprings and at this stage our main concern was to understand how to avoid "pairing wrong colors". I don't realize what "breeding high quality babies" means in terms of investment and time yet. I guess my two males are just "pet quality" (1 Beige and 1 White Mosaic).
Once again, thank you for your help!  ;)

That would be not bad at all, actually...
Is there an "official" shows list I can look at on line?

Good to know about the freckles, thank you!

I can't tell if he's handsome or not but...I can guarantee he's really friendly, active and entertaining!
 :)

What would the best color match for him to mate with?

General Chat / Chinchilla show in the New York City area?
« on: February 04, 2011, 09:16:34 AM »
Does anybody know if there are any upcoming events in the New Jersey/New York City area?

I don't mind traveling a bit but it seems that the most of the shows are scheduled very far away from where I live...

Thank you!

Ciao,
Mike

Hi Debbie, thank you for your reply!

He definitely has a white belly and his fur is probably a little bit more gray than it appears on the picture.
Is the "light" issue a bad thing?  :-\

Hi everybody!
I guess I have a very basic question, expression of my "Newbie" status: what color is my Chin?  :)

I think he's "TAN" but I found on line some pictures of Chins that to me look like him but have different color definition.

Thank you very much for your help!

Ciao,
Mike
