Good news!  Gracie delivered 2 girls & a boy today!  They're each 50 & 51 grams.   :::grins::

We got to see one of the deliveries.  So awesome. . .

THANKS so much to starleomach and Jo Ann (especially for the detailed email - very helpful) for responses.

No babies yet, so I'm still stressin'.   She sure looks miserable.

Health / Diabetic Chin?
« on: November 25, 2008, 12:58:49 PM »
We've all read that chins are prone to diabetes and this is one of the reasons we limit sugar (ie raisins) and treats in general.  I haven't yet read of anyone who actually has a diabetic chinchilla and am wondering what symptoms might be displayed if a chin did develop diabetes.  Any ideas?  It would be hard to measure in the same terms as a human (increased thirst, urination), so what else should we be watching for?

Thanks!
Veronica

Breeding 101 / Stressing about due date

Gracie's last set of triplets was born 6/6/08.  She is now very pregnant,in fact, we've been able to feel movement for about four weeks (belly resting in palm).  I'm not used to movement for so long before birth, though I realize this is possible with multiples.  I do not know the date of conception.

Can you tell me what I should watch for to know if things are going wrong?  I just feel like she's getting too big - poor girl looks like a chinchilla head on a balloon body.

Thanks!
Veronica

Health / Re: Need to know about any diseases rats can give chins
« on: November 05, 2008, 06:55:34 PM »
I would like to know the answer too!  I have one rat and she is in the same room as my chins.  The rat never has contact with the chins because I've been told the rat can get aggressive with other animals, but I have never heard to airborne diseases.

Rats are cool - not as cool as chins, but still pretty neat in their own way.  :)

I get my wheels from here:

http://www.geocities.com/forchinatechins/chincessories.htm

It's a chin rescue and has great prices and service.  They can really get these moving and nothing to get their fat little toes or whiskers stuck in.
