Q & A / Re: Is the bedding safe to eat?
« on: December 02, 2008, 10:07:01 AM »
Carefresh is usually used for litter tray under a cage with a wire base. If your cage is one where it will be an area which a chin is running through the carefresh? don't use it.

Why do you need bedding? a chinchilla doesn't really require bedding and often gets urine stains from soiled litter etc Some people do use bedding though. It's just my personal choice not to use it. :)

You mentioned Chucks site named Lonestar having aspen bedding? Aspen as Chuck mentions is safe. He is a well known breeder(even here in UK) If he said it's okay for bedding I would trust him. He is too well known to have unsuitable materials for using with chinchillas. he has been breeding for a long time and knows what he is talking about.

goodness how lucky you all were. Really glad to hear your husband and chinnies where all OK. The mind shrinks at the thought of what could have happened. ohhhh best not thinking about it.
Instead I will raise a cheer and say "Bless those chinnies for raising the alarm!"

awwww how sweet. I am guessing thats the pic I saw on your details at side. he has lovely dark hair. My mum said the first grandchild is always so special.

I can't keep up with demand for chinchillas here Debbie. There are not a lot of top quality chinchilla breeders in my area, Most who buy from me are those getting into showing and looking to by pedigree ones rather than pet store ones. I rest my females a lot as well rather than wear them out. I dont like breedback. I think it's wrong to have a mum feeding babies to be pregnant again with breedback. Even after kits are weaned I let mum have a break before allowing her to breed again.

ohh soz. I tend to go on and on as I have a passion for good breeding practices.
I am off to bed now. It's almost 11.pm. time I was asleep. night night all sweet dreams when you go to bed yourself Debbie. sending best wishes for little junior.

Hello there Debbie. I did notice you were still here smile.
I am downsizing at the moment. on the 100 mark at moment
I did have a lot of mutations but am now retiring my Tov Violets and Violets to some of my friends on my msn group. Also doing same with Ebonies even though they did pick up awards at shows. Will eventually just have standards - which I am well know for in uk having won the NCS National show twice with standards both times - and of course my favorites of all the mutations my black velvets.

I haven't been able to go to many shows this year due to bad health. Such a distance we in Scotland have to go to attend them in England. Pity because I enjoyed seeing my fellow breeders at the shows.

How's life treating you Debbie?

Hello and welcome Billy.
I am not technically a new member, was a member when this forum first started up. Had to rejoin as I could not sign in on my old user ID. So I guess you could say I am new too :)

. It's a great forum and everyone so friendly so don't be afraid to post to whatever topic catches your eye.

Hello everyone. I was one of the first members here when Jamie started this forum. Due to commitments and bad health I didn't have so much time to come here. so (hangs head) I drifted away.  :-[

When I came the other day to look through the messages I found I could not get in. smile.

My name here before was Kingdom Chinchillas. I have now swapped it for a more friendlier name of just Aileen as that's what most people know me as.

I am slowly getting back in to things here. I see quite a few who are still members from when I was here before. Good to see that but also good to see how the membership has swelled.

Will soon get used to all your names. so will now slip out and surf around the boards for a while to get me up to date. Happy to say I managed to add pics to the albums section. Some lovely pics in there I notice.
see you all soon.
happy chinning ~ Aileen x
