Hi everyone.
I am not new here, but have not posted in a while.  I have recently found that in a few months I will have to go for hip replacement surgery.  It will mean a week or so in hospital, and several weeks of rehab.
Now, my husband is here, but I am looking for someone who can come out on occasion to help us care for Trixie while I am unable to walk much (probably while in hospital, and for a couple weeks when I get home).  I am in Rockester, NY.
I just am not sure Rick is willing or able to do it on his own.  I would just like someone to be able to come out and clean her cage, and maybe take her out into her playroom for a run.  He loves Trixie, but I am afraid is not as patient with her care as I am.  I hope to be able to have a chin person come to give us a hand.
As I said, it is a few months off, but  still want to have something in place.  Thanks.

Q & A / Re: Behavir questions..why did she have a hissy fit??
« on: April 13, 2007, 08:44:54 AM »
Trixie is definatly a hoot.  Last night I had her out to play, and she spent a considerable amount of time sitting on my head..peering down over at me.  I sometimes will bring her in a treat to have while at play.  Last night I brought a small bowl with a few dried banana chips in it.  She would hop up onto my lap..nose around for just the right one and grab it..then run across the room to eat it.

Her other favorite thing to do is stare out the window.  Now mind you..it is dark outside, there is nothing to see..but she still loves looking at it. ::shrug::

Thanks.  She is an only chin, and has not been with a male.  Since I originally posted the message, she has calmed a bit and is fine.  I think it was a bit of a reminding me who is in charge,
When she bit, she did not break the skin.  I did get a little scratch on my nose, but I think her tooth may have scrapped me.

Q & A / Behavir questions..why did she have a hissy fit??

After over two years, I find I am still seeing behaviors in Trixie that I cannot explain.  Last night when I had her out, she aid alot of running, which she does often.  Then she hopped back into her carrier..which usually tells me she is ready togo back to her cage...especially if she runs in and out a couple of times.  Sometimes, I find she will go in there to pee, and come back out.  Last night when I went to take her out of the carrier ( I usually will hand carry her back to her cage, allowing some cuddle time).  She usually will hop onto my hand when I hold it there, and wait for me to get ahold of her.  But this time, she would not hop onto my hand, and started biting..HARD.  I picked her up, and she promptly tried to take a bite out of my nose.  ::pull hair:: ::chinmad::  I thought that maybe she wanted to play more, so I set her on the chair, so she could hop down.  She ran around the room once..and went back into her carrier, and stayed there.  This time let me bring her out.  Now, nothing happened to lead me to believe she was hurt, and she seemed OK when she was back into her cage...went for a drink (normal for her after a run) and then went to lay down for a nap  in her wheel..again  normal for her.  My husband laughed and said if it were me, he would say it was PMS or something.
Today she seems OK...came out as we were leaving for work to wait for her morning treat, and went back to bed.  Was in her hammock when we got home.  Came over looking for attention when I went to see her.
What do you think?

General Chat / Re: Wheel modification

Not sure I like the modifications.  Too much of a temptation to chew..and a risk for the little feet getting caught.

We had considered the flying saucer wheel..but decided to go for the large aluminum wheel.  Runs on ball bearings, so it is sturdy, as well as fairly quiet when she starts running madly in it. Plus, it sometimes serves as a nap area for her..she likes to sleep in it.

It is amazing how well they train us.  Trixie responds to me moving from my chair..but not Rick..as I am usually the one who takes her out for playtime.  I am learning her poses too.  There is the just sitting there looking pathetic pose..usually if she has gone longer than an hour with no attention..or if has been about 5 minutes since she has eaten, and she feels she deserves a treat.

Then there is the standing up, ears perked...Hey mom, can I go out to play??

General Chat / Re: Do any of your chins "talk" in thier sleep?
« on: April 01, 2007, 01:15:23 PM »
:)  Yes, I saw the other thread after I posted this one.   Sometimes Trixie will run around the room barking when I have her out for play time.  She will run to different spots, stop bark and then off to another spot to stop and bark.  I found it often happens if there has been a sudden unusual noise from outside..as we live in a normally quiet neighborhood.

;)  Interesting..I just posted a similar message to this before I saw this one.  Trixie often barks in her sleep during the day.  Once in a while she will bark at night.  We always will check on her when she barks..just to make sure she is OK>

General Chat / Do any of your chins "talk" in thier sleep?
« on: April 01, 2007, 01:09:40 PM »
:chin:  Every once in a while, out of the blue, Trixie will start talking in  her sleep.  Usually a few quick barks, once in a while some chirps or peeps.  When she barks, one of us will usually check to make sure she is OK..but often she is peacefully sleeping.

Have to wonder if she is dreaming, and if so, what about?

::nod::  My husband is funny around Trixie.  I remember one Saturday, he was at home, and I was working (I am usually off weekends).  ANyway..I get a phone call from him at about 4 PM all concerned....he had taken Trixie out to her playroom, and She ran under a chair and was just sitting there.  Why was she not running?  I had to patiently explain that 4:00 was still too early to take her out..she was just waking up from her sleep.

Q & A / Re: what if there's a blackout this summer?
« on: March 28, 2007, 03:10:23 PM »
We had a blackout here last summer that lasted about 12 hours.  I had recently bought some flat terra cotta (clay) tiles, and had them in the fridge.  I put them in the bottom of Trixie's cage.  I also put some ice cubes in a small bowl in her cage, and Rick chopped some ice cubes into chips which I put into her water bottle.  This happened on a Sunday, but we planned that one of us would stay home from work on Monday if needed, to keep cool stuff in and around her cage.

::silly::  Trixie is a grey, but if I did get another, I rather like the looks of the blacks and the whites.

General Chat / Re: Training chins to go home.
« on: March 27, 2007, 08:54:49 AM »
With Trixie, I use her pet carrier to get her to and from her play area.  I keep her cage in the living room, but there are too many places for her to get hurt, or in trouble to let her run free in the house.  So, I have a room as a dedicated playroom for her.  When she sees me bring the carrier out, she knows it is time to go out, and will wait by the cage door, then hop into the carrier.
I then leave the carrier on the floor of her play room.  After about a half hour or hour, she will run back to her carrier and hop inside, letting me know she is ready to go home.  Lately, if I do not respond right away, she will jump out of the carrier, and into my lap, then back down to the carrier.  So it is more that we have trained each other.  :::grins::
