Guestbook / Hello there
« on: December 20, 2008, 02:28:42 PM »
New to the forum here. I'm in the final year of a BSc Hons degree of animal behaviour and welfare. A part of it is a very large research project with the potential for publishment into an animal of our choice. I chose chinchillas due to my interest in the fascinating creatures, I own two them myself and they are very captivating.

I was also struck in my years of study at the lack of research into the species, its very sad considering how interesting they are and how little is still known about them  :::((( . I've posted a topic in the 'News' category linking to the short online survey I'm using to collect my data for the project, I'd be very grateful should any chinchilla breeder have a spare few minutes to fill it out. Sadly its received very little interest so far with only very few filled out.

I need at least a hundred of the survey to be filled out to be able to analyse the results with any reliability, so any passing along the link or filling out the form will help a lot  :) . Hopefully with enough breeders filling out the survey I'll be back in May 2009 to post the conclusions of the study so their freely available for breeders and chinchilla enthusastes alike to see.

Nice to meet you all.

News / New survey for chinchilla breeders to fill out - help the research
« on: December 20, 2008, 02:04:23 PM »
Hello, I am a final year BSc Hons student at the University of Chester carrying out a study to see whether there is a relationship between how a mother chinchilla was raised (for example, mother raised, supplemented or hand reared) and how her offspring needed to be raised, as well as looking into any reasons why.

In order to collect the information needed for the study, I have designed a short 10 – 20 minute survey. All that is required to fill it out is information on a female chinchilla that you know the history of, as well as details of her latest litter.

Your anonymity and confidentiality will be held to the highest regard and at the end of the project the conclusion of the results of the study will be posted on the sites that took part.
