General Chat / Re: What color am I?

THe strange thing is that she is actually a very experienced breeder. Her animals are really nice (their fur, their tempers etc) and she really do know what she is doing. First I read that she had a "white diamond" and I thought, well maybe there was something I didnt read, but I simply cannot find that mutation anywhere.

On the other hand, its just a name, its not like she doesnt know what she is doing :) Rather that, than someone (like me :P) who knows the names but have no clue how to breed (I do not breed and Im not going to)

My dad is white sc/vc (Im guessing we dont know if he is violet or saphire carier) - his fur is very white and his eyes, ears etc are very dark
My mom is violet sc - her fur is really lush and thick - its all the same color

I am light gray with a darker dot on my side. My belly is white and so is my nose, paws and the tip of tail

the flash makes her fur appear a little darker than it is - the difference between the different shades of gray are not as large as they seem here :) most of her fur looks like it may be violet

General Chat / My baby is quirky <3
« on: June 22, 2011, 06:09:23 AM »
I thought I knew a little about Chins but then my little girl came home and she is.. well quirky :3

she sleeps on her side, if possible squeezed in between the wire mesh and a piece of wood
she sleeps at night and gets up around noon. nocturnal anyone?
she doesn’t use her houses, but prefers to sleep/play/sit in her bathtub (cleaning the sand is a never ending task!)
the door to her cage can move slightly, so she sits on it and makes it swing back and forth xD

she has been here for a day and a half and she already seems settled in (we are waiting for about a week before we take her out - everything is going slooovly)
I thought it would take longer before she was done being scared and anxious, but she just loves it here :)

I feel really lucky <3

this pic i taken the day after she arrived. We couldnt find her that morning, because she was sleeping down here :) sorry I didnt catch a pic of her sleeping - she always gets up as soon as she sees the camera ;)

does anyone else have chins who sleeps at night?

Cages / flat with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a view

Here is the cage we recently built.  ;)

Its built from scratch and is (roughly) 2m x 1,1m x 0,8m (6.5ft x 3.2ft x 2.6ft or 78.7in x 43.3in x 31.5in – hope everyone can picture it now… its big x big x big!)
These pictures are from the day we built it. The chins are going to be living inside the house (but WOW would it have been easier to just leave it out there, it was heavy!)

The shelves rest on the structure. It makes me sleep well at night knowing everything could (theoretically) hold my weight.
Toys and more is coming. No matter how much stuff I put in there it still looks empty though :/ I have built little bridges and smaller shelves, ladders, hammocks, scratching posts and more so the gaps between the shelves aren’t so big.

Before the wire:

Well almost – in the bottom there is a drawer(not in the pic) that holds all of the shaving and that. Hopefully it makes cleaning really easy : )
Thanks for looking (yes those two awesome fellers made it  ^_^ one of them is the boyfriend the other is his brother)

If you are planning on building a cage like this, consider;
-   The time! It takes a lot of time and hard work. We were three people (and  only one who does these things on a daily basis) and it took about 3 days to complete.

-   The wire…Putting on the wire is hell! If you have a stable gun it will take about half an hour but with a hammer…. Ugh..  also, find a large space for putting it on, getting it off the roll requires more space than you would think.

-   How you are going to access the top and bottom level. This cage has 1 door and 2 little openings (top and bottom) where things can be placed, removed and cleaned from.

-   The price. Often you can get smaller cages for the same money that it will cost you to make a large cage like this – it is not cheap, but of course; the bigger the better ;)

I had a lot of fun with this – building stuff is fun! Try it!
