Q & A / BEST food to feed chinchillas.
« on: November 13, 2014, 12:55:11 PM »
Ive had my two bucks for how many years, and i just usually go to the pet shop and grab the food with the picture of a chinchilla on it that they like.. (gotta make sure its the right one, or they wont eat it... lol)

But is that really the best for them? Im very aware about food now more than ever since i did research on my ferrets food, and got them on the best food for them. (raw diet)

Well i know Chinchillas are not carnivores, but i want to make sure that the Pet shop Food companies are not just trying to make a dollar on the cheap by making poor quality food...

what should be the best for my new ones when i get them?

Breeding 101 / Re: Best place to start for breeding?
« on: November 13, 2014, 12:01:10 PM »
Okay after doing a little bit of reading i decided that i DO NOT want to breed my two males.. Only reason is they are brothers, and havent been separated since they were born.. and i dont want them to loose that by introducing a female....

So after i decide to start breeding i will be looking for two breeding quality chinchillas..

that is all.. :D

Breeding 101 / Best place to start for breeding?
« on: November 13, 2014, 11:50:59 AM »
Hi i have 2 male chins that are about 6 or 7 years old. Im not sure what age they shouldnt breed at after a certain age. But im interested in becoming a breeder for chinchillas, and eventually would like to show. I dont really know where to start..

I have some basic knowledge of breeding and such. but thats kinda where it stops... I dont want to dive in and learn as i go... so how does one become super prepared? Any GREAT sites that have information on this with extreme detail and such?

you probaly could put a metal tray under the bottem. like a dog cage one, if you need it that big, or you probaly can get them smaller.. depends on your cage size.

Ok, so we just got our chinchilla, Koda last night. I know hes not used to us, but hes VERY jumpy, spaz ish too. lol. So how long do you think this act will go on? Hes asleep on my lap right now, but when we hold him, he runs up my arms,or jums from one hand to my leg, couch, or whatever.  Is this normal?

So, i just got my first chinchilla yesterday, and been on these boards about, less than a month now.
Our chinchilla is named Koda, from brother bear. :)
I believe once my chinchilla is old enough, I plan to show him.

OK so. im new here, and just getting used to things..
But my question is for those who show their chinchillas. I got my baby boy today, and once hes older, Im thinking of finding a chinchilla show near my location. [for fun, not for hard core showing ::)] Iv'e never been to one, or know if one is close to where i live, but once i find out i will go to them often.

What requirements and what do you do before your chinchillas first show?
Is there a certin weight, hight, age they have to be?

anything else would be great!
Thank you very much!
