Q & A / Re: My chinchillas is missing!!! I need help!
« on: October 10, 2007, 01:16:39 PM »
Did you try moving your stove to see if he got behind it? Alot of ovens have openings at the back. I would look behind the fridge also. Check your lower cabinets in the kitchen also. Perhaps there is a gap that he squeezed himself into and went to sleep. Sorry if you already looked in those places. They were a few hidey spots that came to my mind. If there are any gaps under the cupboards, look under the sink. If the plumbing comes up from under the house, is there anyway he could have gotten under the house?
I wish you lots of luck in finding your chinnie.

Oh No! How horrible!  :::((( I hope you find a place for your 18th party on such short notice! As far as your chinnie being stressed, just sit quietly with him and maybe give him a shreddie or rose hip. Keep to as normal of a routine as you can. Once the house quiets down, he should be ok. I am glad he was safe and didn't have to get an unexpected bath!

General Chat / Re: where do you get your chinchilla wood???
« on: September 28, 2007, 06:49:25 PM »
Zee12- the bark is the best part of the wood! Once my critters peel the bark, then they leave the rest of the stick! As long as the wood has not been treated with pesticides and is prepared correctly (washed, boiled, and baked) the bark is fine!

You can buy lava bites/blocks at places like pet smart or pet co. They are in a package of 3. They are colored pink, blue and yellow. They will be in the small animal section. They run about $4 in my area for the package. You can also google chinchilla supplies. There maybe someone selling who is closer to you so shipping isn't too expensive.

General Chat / Re: Just back from Exotic pet show and...
« on: September 01, 2007, 09:31:03 PM »
I have gone to those types of shows and have seen breeders. The last show I went to the breeder had a 10 year old female that she was selling. I guess the chin was not of any use to the breeder anymore, so selling her for $75(I think) was the easiest way to get rid of her. I tried to get the breeder to drop the price and I explained that I was a rescue. I told her that I would make sure the chin would live out her life as a pet, but she declined. I hope that chin went to a knowledgeable home. Those shows are about moving excess "stock"(imo) I always feel so aweful and wish I could take all the exotics home.  ::cry222:::

General Chat / Re: Good for Chins, why not us?
« on: September 01, 2007, 01:55:25 PM »
My daughter, who is 16, just the other day used a pumice stone on her feet. She is a lifeguard and is also on the swim team, so her feet are rough. She was so excited about how her feet felt after using the pumice, that she wanted me to feel how soft they were! I politely declined and laughed at her! So, I will have to tell her to take some chin dust and massage her feet in it!  rofl
