Health / Re: Rat Poison!!!! :(
« on: November 01, 2011, 07:18:22 PM »
If the poison was affecting them, i would think that it would show fairly quickly. Chins seem to have fairly sensitive digestive systems. I hope all is still doing well, but even if they are, be aware if this ever happens again. I suggest that you take them to the vet immediately.

Health / Chinchilla losing his voice?
« on: October 20, 2011, 11:24:39 PM »
Our chinchilla Gizmo appears to be losing his voice. He used to have a raspy voice when "barking" now it is a smooth "hoot". I dont know why this happened, but i was curious if anyone else has had this happen and maybe know what is causing this. Thank you.

After a lot of web browsing, i agree. I am still fairly new to chinchillas, and i worry about them. It looks as though it was just a really bad fur slip. I didnt realize it could be that bad. Thank you though.

I don't even know how to describe about how much came out. They have fur slipped before, but never anything like this. And for how much came out, it should have taken some force, but if just fell out.

Health / Losing ALOT of hair. Please help ASAP
« on: October 01, 2011, 08:10:45 PM »
Our chin Dusty just lost a whole wad of hair. It actually left a bald spot about 1/4" in diameter. he had a little bit of hair hanging from his rear, so i grabbed it and a WHOLE bunch came out. As in an unhealthy amount. I'm worried. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

General Chat / Re: Eating bedding?
« on: September 25, 2011, 09:54:35 AM »
If your chin is eating his bedding, more than likely, he just needs something to chew on. Do you have plenty of toys for him to gnaw on? Even if so, he may just be bored with them, and the bedding is something new. No, eating the bedding isn't necessarily healthy for them, but i do believe that they are smart enough to know when to stop eating it.

Health / Re: Chinchilla anxiety? Help ASAP

The new guys arent with Dusty, they are good distance away too. We havent let them play together either, and I let Dusty out before the new guys. He seemed better this morning when I had him out, so you are probably right with him just needing time to adjust to them. Thank you for the help and I will keep you posted if anything changes for the worst.

I do believe being a member of this site will be a great help now that we own 4 all with completely different personalities

Health / Chinchilla anxiety? Help ASAP
« on: September 22, 2011, 10:36:04 PM »
I'm new to this forum, and this is my first post. Up until now, our chinchillas have been very happy and quite spoiled. (nice big cages, good healthy food, wood blocks, dust baths often) Now the wood we have used are all apple. and the food is not rich in salt or sugar. So far we have raised 2 happy chins. We just got 2 new ones. Today while having the 2 original ones out, one of them (Dusty) did nothing but hide. this is very unusual for him. He is usually running all over the place. He also loves to be held. But today, all he wanted to do was hide in a crack in the couch. Every time we moved him away from there, he bolted back. Also, he has not moved off of the second shelf of his 4 shelf cage. I'm worried something may be wrong with him. Please help. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
