What is the width of your bars? Babies can easily escape. You need to get some 1/2" x 1/2" mesh wire to wrap around your cage in order to prevent escapees. You need to get a scale that weighs in grams to make sure they are properly gaining weight. You need to have formula on hand to give in case they are not getting milk from mom and are not gaining weight. You need to have an extra water bottle with half apple or cranberry juice (make sure it is 100% juice and not a cocktail) to help mom's milk to come in. And since you found mom and babies after delivery, you need to be prepared for a breedback. You need to get a supplement to have mom on to help her regain weight while nursing, especially since there is a chance that she may be pregnant again.

Make sure you are supplementing her. A breedback is so stressful on the mother's body. She is giving nutrients to her kits and nutrients to the kits in her belly if she is pregnant again.

I think it would also be dependant on the fertility of the male as well. If his swimmers aren't very strong or high in numbers, they might not be able to fertilize as many eggs, no matter how many the female produces.

If it was on her back then it was probably just a dominance mounting. I would keep your male away from the female for a little while if she is getting annoyed with him. She needs to focus on caring for her kits, not fighting off a male. The kits could also get hurt in all of the scuffling. You don't want her to get pregnant again. Give her body a little time to rest.

Yes, putting the bowl of water in there is bad. There is a good chance that it will spill and he will get wet. That leaves a great chance for him getting sick.

Not yet, I have had singles, twins and triplets *knock on wood*. We had to foster one of the triplets due to fighting, and I had to also hand feed him for a while. We are lucky he survived, because he lost a lot of weight!

I would watch her carefully. Generally when a female is in labor, they are standing up, not laying down. They stretch upwards and then sort of bear down. I would be super attentive, and have a vet and emergency vet on hand for any complications.

I would opt for neutering the males over having the females spayed. You said you already have a neutered male, so if you feel that is unsafe to simply keep the males and females seperate, then I would go with fixing the males. I wouldn't spay a female unless there was a problem with her reproductive organs.

I have heard both that it is safe and it isn't. I have purchased two of the logs. One of my chins demolished one, and the other one has been here for quite a while with just a few teeth marks. I have never personally had a problem with them.

I am very anti-ball. Chins can get overheated, they can get injured, they can get urine in their fur, etc. To me its just not worth the risk.

Take your time with him getting to know you. Some chins just don't like to be held, but you do want him to trust you.

Limit treats to appropriate sticks, cheerios, shredded wheat, rosehips, and oats.

I would maybe try tapping you finger on the spout and touching it to his mouth to show him before you give him a water dish. Maybe that would help. Sorry, I have just never come across this problem before.

I am trying to raise money for my rescue (my son just got into private school, so I want to make sure my chinnies and the rescues still get just as spoiled), so I started making these hay boxes. I thought I would let everyone over here know about them. I designed them to solve some of the problems I was having with my chins and their hay. The wood is thick so it lasts. Chins can't spill the hay, or urinate on it. It hangs from the side of the cage, and I personalize it with whatever you would like on it.
