lol it's funny because mine are that spoiled too! I've tried everything to keep them entertained at night and I've made their enclosure a ridiculous size and all that works for a while. The problem is that they're smart little buggers and they get bored after a while. I don't want to put them in another room. Even though they keep me awake I like to have them close. So, like a crazy person, I have moved my bed right next to their cage so I can reach out and pet their noses through the bars. They still make noise occasionally but I think that it's just when they bother each other. Having them right next to me seems to have appeased them otherwise.

It almost sounds like she had what I call "shelter syndrome". I've seen many cats come in to our spca as strays in bad shape and they would be so grateful and affectionate because of the trauma they'd endured. But some of them would realize after a while that they were safe and would be fed so their shock wore off and their true personality began to show through. And sometimes it turned out they were not actually affectionate or interested in people.

Mine don't want to play games with me but in an effort to bond more and interact (because they do NOT want to be picked up) I lay on the floor with some treats on my belly and let them run all over me and chew on my buttons. I found two large collapsible dog crates and i took them apart in such a way that made them in to a fence I can fold up and put away. So, when it's play time, I pull the fence out (it's like 10' long) in front of their cage so it's kind of like an impromptu yard. Then I just get in and read or watch tv and we all just hang out together. I've definitely notice it's made them less fearful and it eliminates having to chase them back into their cage. After a while, if they haven't gone back on their own, I just leave them like that until they go home and then fold everything up and put it away.

Q & A / Dust substitute in a pinch?

Is there any common household item that can be used to substitute a dust bath? I can't get to a store until tomorrow and they keep checking their empty dust house longingly. I've got all sorts of powdery substances around. Some are obviously not safe like clumping cat litter. But what about flour or something like that?

Health / My chin sounds hoarse

My poor boy has started making a sound I've never heard before. It's like his "back off" noise but more hoarse and seems involuntary. It also kind of sounds like he has to sneeze but can't. Other than that, he's eating/drinking/running around/clear eyes, etc...I would take him to the vet but I'm soo broke right now, I'd hate to take him in and have it be nothing (as awful as that sounds). So, I was hoping someone could tell me if I should take him in or wait and see. He and his brother are almost 3 years old, they are housed together, the brother is fine, their dust is not kept in their cage, and the pine bedding I use is kiln dried.
