Health / Re: Scabs/cuts on mouth?
« on: March 24, 2012, 09:38:34 PM »
When I take her out of her cage, I always supervise her. There are no sharp edges in the cages. She is still eating her raisins and dry banana slices.. The cuts seem to be getting better still, I don't know/ or think I could put anything on it to heal so it doesn't leave a mark. I just don't want this happening again though, I am observing her 100 times more than I have been.

She has hard food, I gave her and an almond and she loved it and gobbled it right up today. She also ate a few pellets, unlike yesterday. She also is eating her hay perfectly fine now too. Her cuts are seeming to get better, but slowly. If she can eat hard foods, should I not worry that much about it? I have put in new pieces of wood and a whole new wood hut for her to chew, I hope that helps.

Health / Scabs/cuts on mouth?
« on: March 22, 2012, 03:37:36 PM »
So, I just recently posted something about how my chinchilla is not eating, but eats raisins and dried banana slices absolutely fine. I looked around her mouth and found these scabs on her top left lip and two on her bottom left lip.

Help! What do I do?

Health / Chinchilla not eating..
« on: March 22, 2012, 03:30:19 PM »
I got my chinchilla previously a couple days ago. I have had a few problems with biting, but she seems to be doing better the more time I spend with her. However, she is looking like a really picky eater. I barely see any of her food gone from her dish. She eats hay though, and only drinks water when I hand feed it to her. When she is good, I feed her dried raisins and she eats that like she has never seen food for days. Right now I am giving her a Chinchilla diet from Pet Smart that they created. Her previous owner fed her rabbit pellets/food, and she didn't seem to like that at all. The first night she was here, she completely cleaned the bowl of food I gave her throughout the night, which is what I find weird. Although she likes to sleep a lot in her cage and my lap, she maintains an active schedule and isn't mopey.

Should I try a different diet, if so, what kind?

Is there anything specific that your, or chinchillas in general love to eat that wont give them a "sweet tooth?"

Any help would be great, thanks!

Q & A / Chinchilla keeps biting me..
« on: March 20, 2012, 08:24:01 PM »
I have had my chinchilla for two days now, although I've previously owned two other chinchillas, and never had a problem with them biting me. The first day she was perfect. Now the second day in, she takes every moment she can to bite me, to the point where I almost bleed. When I got her, the owner said that her father was a very aggressive chinchilla, but he got along with the mother just fine.

I read up on a few things and someone said that pushing back on the chinchillas mouth would confuse them, and could lead them to stopping that biting habit?

She is only three months old, and I want to stop this bad habit before it gets worse. Because I am planning for her to house with other chins in the future.

Any help would be great.
Thanks!
