Q & A / introducing baby males?
« on: April 13, 2008, 02:55:27 PM »
I just bought another chin from the pet-store (yes, i know it's probably not the best place). He's a 3 month old mosaic male, and I fell in love with him when i saw him, and spent my whole check buying him! Not responsible.. :blush2: I also have a 6 month old standard male, who has a fairly large cage so I bought my mosaic knowing I could divide it top and bottom. I knew nothing about the quarantine!! I'm worried because I cannot afford another cage right now. Regardless I think the two are going to turn out to be great friends. After I divided the cage I let my oldest out to play while my new one (haven't figured out a name yet :)) checked out his cage. Well as soon as the mosaic saw Noel he started chirping really loudly and trying to get out of the cage. Noel heard and he started making the same noise! Then they started rubbing noses through the cage. They did this all night and when I let the little one out he climbed the cage to check out Noel, who has the top of the cage. Is this a good sign or bad? Also how should I go about introducing? Any help would be great, thank you all!  :)

Health / could it be fungus?
« on: March 15, 2008, 05:59:14 PM »
Hi everyone :) I've had Noel a couple of months now and for the past month I've noticed each of his first toes on his back feet are bright red, have very little hair. I pushed on them earlier and it seemed like they were a big scab ready to come off at any moment  :-\ He's in a cage with a drop down pan, although I did have him in pine shavings for a while. I'm thinking it's fungus, what do you think? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Q & A / Re: His Poor Feet
« on: February 17, 2008, 06:33:29 PM »
I guess I just worry a little too much about him.  :::grins:: His feet have gone down and they look just fine now. I would love to take the wire out from the bottom of his cage, but it seems like no matter what type of bedding I get he eats it! I was wanting to build some shelves and I went to Lowes today to find some untreated pine, but I just didn't see any that I thought might be safe. Where should I buy the wood for his shelves at? Any suggestions would be appreciated ;)

Q & A / His Poor Feet
« on: February 13, 2008, 07:54:50 PM »
I just bought a nice big cage for my baby, but it has a wire floor and wire shelves. I know this is absolutely horrible for his feet and I fully intend on making him wood shelves, however I've noticed his feet have become really red.  :'( I feel so bad for him and I'm wondering what is the best thing I can do for him? And do you think his feet have become red/sort of inflamed because of the wire? This weekend I'll make the shelves, is it okay to wait that long?

Q & A / Re: stressed out?
« on: January 26, 2008, 02:24:57 PM »
I think you just might be right. I'm at school during the day, but when I get home I rush right to his cage and find him in his wheel. He'll play a little and then nap and then play. Last night I stuck my hand in his cage to change his food and he figured out if he hops on my arm and runs fast enough he can escape.  :::grins:: Pretty Funny. I mixed in some pine with his care fresh and he seems to be doing better. It was a scare! Also I've noticed he has a thing for nibbling my finger nails, he'll sniff around my hand, but the only thing he's really fond of nibbling is my nail. Do any of yours do this? Thank you all!

Yes he has been eating pretty well, all the time really. His poop is hard like its been, and the last time I saw him drink water was last night. Do you think it's at all possible he's playing during the day and just trying to get some rest at night? I know that may seem pretty unlikely since they're nocturnal, but it's worth a shot? Thank you all for any help you can give me :(

Q & A / stressed out?
« on: January 25, 2008, 07:12:06 PM »
Hello Everyone! I just got my baby boy Noelle about a week ago. He's come around and he'll take treats and sniff/stand on my hand. I made the mistake of using pine bedding a couple of days ago and today I bought some Care Fresh. While the pine was in his cage I noticed he got very inactive, and would only sit/sleep in his wheel. So after I changed his bedding I figured he'd become his active little self again but he's still just sitting in his wheel. I've also noticed he's squatting down in it and kind of laying on his side. This doesn't seem normal! I've checked and his ears and paws are not red so I don't think it's overheating. I took his wheel out just in case it's something to do with that. Even at night when he used to bounce off the walls he's just lying there. I'm very concerned- do any of you know what it might be? Thank you so much!  ::shrug::
