Q & A / How will I know if chin has dental issues?
« on: July 09, 2014, 05:54:30 AM »
There isn't anything wrong with him right now,  but as a new chin owner, I'm just looking to be more informed. From looking at other posts on this website I get the sense that teeth issues are a little more common than most things.

How will I know if there is an issue with his teeth, and if there is, how serious is it? Is there something I can do to fix the problem, or does teeth issues warrant an immediate visit to the vet?

I appreciate any and all feedback and advice!
 :)

Q & A / Re: Best hay feeder to use?
« on: July 09, 2014, 05:33:21 AM »
I have a wooden chinchilla version of this type of hay rack... it looks totally different, but the concept of "the rack itself is OUTSIDE the cage at all times" is nice... I was a bit skeptical when the shop assistant told me that he would just reach between the bars to snag the hay, but he did figure it out eventually, so, yay!

The advantage, of course, is it's so convenient to refill, clean, etc. :)

I've never seen that type before! Thanks for showing me, I'm going to look around and see if I can find one like that!!

Q & A / Best hay feeder to use?
« on: March 18, 2014, 05:19:21 PM »
I am looking for a hay feeder that is not made of plastic but will provide my guy with an easy way to eat his hay. I've tried the rolling hay ball and the dangling ball (which I have gotten rid of because of the horror stories I have read about chins getting stuck) and nothing is working. I keep his hay just on the floor of his cage, but I wonder if that is maybe not the best way to go?

What do you guys use? Feeders or floor, and why? If you use a feeder, what type?

Thanks!

General Chat / Any good online stores that ship to Canada?
« on: March 18, 2014, 05:02:30 PM »
I recently saw a post asking for suggestions on websites to buy products for chins, as some big retailers don't necessarily have the best in mind for the chins. There was a great suggestion for a website, but unfortunately they did not ship to Canada. I was just wondering if anyone had any websites they use for their chin products that do ship here (based in canada would be best, but internationally is okay too).

Thanks!

Q & A / Re: How much hay should my chin be eating?
« on: January 23, 2014, 07:22:36 PM »
That was an awesome amount of information, thank-you so much!

He has timothy hay and we do put it on the floor, and he definitely tramples it, which is why I was concerned about how much he was eating. It's hard to tell when it all gets compacted into the base of his cage! But his pellet consumption, chewing, teeth, etc are all well, so I guess he is getting enough! He is never without his hay, and he eats every last bit of his pellets.

Again, thank-you for your feedback, it was very very helpful :)

Just watch that they don't chew a hole in the tunnel and escape! I know that is what my chin would do :P

Q & A / How much hay should my chin be eating?
« on: January 23, 2014, 05:23:52 PM »
Hello all!

I am a new chin owner (I've had him for about 4 months) and I just have a question about how much hay he should be eating? He does eat his hay, because I have seen him do it, and he is in good health, I just worry he isn't eating as much as he should. I know it is hard to judge these things, but as he is a young chin and I am a novice chin mom, any advice you could give me would be great.

Thanks! :)
