General Chat / Re: Fluffy just had a kit
« on: September 12, 2014, 10:53:41 AM »
Ok you guys are making me feel better thanks! She seems fine now like nothing happened. And my male was only in with her for a few hours. Lol guess it doesn't take long. Now his cage is beside her and making all these sounds at her and she keeps putting her butt to him lol. I took a pic of the baby (not the underside). He was twice the size of my other chins kits. I'll see if I can upload it

So I'm a little confused and concerned. She only had the one kit which I did not witness. My son noticed her acting strange and that when we saw him. I wish I had known she was pregnant 😓so I took the kit out of the cage and his whole stomach/groin area was gone. Did she eat him?? What happened? As far as I know this was her first kit ever. It's sad. Idk if something was wrong with him or what happened. He was missing a tooth as well. It's disturbing. 😓

So....once again we were surprised to see a kit in the cage. We weren't sure she was pregnant. I thought they gave birth in the mornings but she just have birth to the biggest kit I've ever seen he was huge!!!! Unfortunately he wasn't alive : (. Waiting to see if there are anymore to follow.

Q & A / Re: Chillys fur is missing and skin broken and yellow!!!!!!!
« on: September 10, 2014, 02:16:32 PM »
Thanks. I appreciate everyone's response. Ya he's never done this before but it seemed like he wanted my attn this morning. Tiny just seemed like nothing was going on. There are no other signs either to suggest she fought him because the wound is localized to his chest. We caught him doing it as well. Seems to be eating and drinking fine. I will keep everyone updated! Again thanks 💜

Update*****
I took him to the vet they gave me antibiotics and meds to put on him. It appears he is doing it himself. He won't leave it alone and she said the collar wouldn't help because it would irritate him even more. So close close eye on him and all the prayers I can get to help him get better. No reason why he did it tho. The skin isn't actually open like that she said it is just puss from the infection.

Q & A / Chillys fur is missing and skin broken and yellow!!!!!!!

So my chinnes are always so happy and lovable but I woke up this morning and chilly was standing up on the cage like "hey! Hey mom look at me" and then I freaked out about what I saw. His chest fur is gone! And the skin near his arms is yellow. What happened? I put him in a cage by himself and am watching him cuz I don't know if he did it or if tiny his gf did it.....

Health / Re: Wet fur?

Lol yes I believe that was the case. I saw her sitting up against it today. Like I said she has been pretty thirsty since she had Zūk. So much that we've caught her (for lack of better descriptive words) deep throating the water nozzle. 👀

« on: May 25, 2014, 06:42:52 AM »Ok I gave her a dust bath and it cleared up haven't seen it again so I'm thinking maybe she was sitting up against the watter bottle. I know since having Zūk she has been extremely thirsty. He is still nursing but when she does to eat he goes with her. They are the only two in the cage the other two are in a cage beside them. Thanks for all the info. I feel like a new parent stressing over my babies all the time. 💜

My son woke me up this a.m. telling me that something was wrong with tiny (the momma). I'm not sure what happened but her fur on her chest looks like it got wet somehow. She's not acting strange or anything just curious why it would look this way. She was fine at last check around midnight.
Baby Zūk is doing good getting bigger and faster by the day. When does he stop nursing and eat pellets? I've noticed him eating some the other day but that was it.

Q & A / Re: Matting fur
« on: May 16, 2014, 07:33:50 AM »
Thanks! I pretty sure it's the water bottle because he is always moving his house and it always ends up close to the water. I checked and he has no cuts anywhere. Thanks!!

Q & A / Matting fur
« on: May 16, 2014, 06:00:17 AM »
I know there's probably already a post about this but I can't find it. I took my male, female and kit to a neutral location (my bedroom) and let them play to see how they would react to eachother after being separated now for 4 weeks (even though their cages are beside eachothers). I let ikr and dad out and they played and had fun and then put kit back and let mom n dad play and it was like they had never been separated. 💜💜loved it. But I noticed that my male has a small area of fur behind his left foot that is matted......and I'm not sure why? Or what to do?

Q & A / Re: Do Chinchillas Laugh?
« on: May 01, 2014, 07:02:57 PM »
All 3 of mine sound like they are laughing a lot. It's funny (and coincidental) cuz they usually do it after someone in the house has said something stupid. Enjoy because they are amazing creatures.

Aside from taking her to the vet it is hard to tell until she is near ready to give birth. My female gave birth April 19th and we didn't know for sure that she was. We suspected it because she looked bigger and because she was constantly laying on her side and sleeping a lot more often even during the hours she normally would be full of energy. Just keep a close eye on her if she is you will see a change in her that let's you know. If you do suspect she is try not to handle her because it could hurt the kits. Good luck!
