Q & A / scared chinchilla
« on: December 03, 2016, 10:45:11 AM »
I accidentally left the cage door to the chinchilla cage open. The chinchilla was free for about 10 hours. lucky, she didnt chew through any cables in my room, but it's is understandably terrified. when I placed it back in the cage with it the other chinchilla that she has become acquainted with several years ago, she acted withdrawing and territorial. They started fighting right away causing some fur loss.  I have separated the chinchillas, but I am worried about the health and well being of my scared chinchilla. What should I do to make this passage easier on her and less stressful?

General Chat / chinchilla introduction still not working
« on: March 02, 2015, 10:58:42 PM »
I have 2 chins who have bonded. I recently acquired another chin and I am trying to introduce them. I have posted on this forum regarding this matter, they told me place the chins in separate cages withing close proximity to my new chin. It was recommended that I wait two weeks then allow them to play together. They still bicker and bite each other. I was told, if it fails, to wait another week and reintroduce them. I waited another week and still no improvement. It has been over a month since I tried to introduce them, but it hasn't worked at all. I need another method to expedite things a little.

Alright then, I won't let them out together for two weeks. I will place there cage next to each other, leaving an inch of space between the two cages. This way, they can smell each other without them biting each other.

Thx for the reply, They are all definitively female. Is there any other method I can Implore to get them to like each other faster?

General Chat / Chinchilla introduction

So I have 3 Chinchillas now. Two have bonded a year ago. They are called Chinpokomon, the other Pikachu. I am trying to introduce my new Chinchilla, Snowy. I bought a separate cage for snowy. I placed the cage next to the other chinchillas for a week. They will still fight, and lose fur. I tried getting them to use the same dust house, I even let them out together every other day but they will invariably fight. Although, I feel that Pikachu might feel more inclined to bond with Snowy. But Chinpokomon won't have any of it. She will try to fight Snowy every time she sees her.  :(

Q & A / Re: New baby chinchillia

I got the cage, but it was too little to late. By the time I had the cage ready, it had contracted intestinal prolapse (she pooped her intestines). I contacted the vet and they want 500-600$. I can't afford that. I am in a moral dilemma. Should I let it live so it can ride it's last days in it's cage? Or should I kill it and spare it's suffering?

Q & A / New baby chinchillia
« on: January 22, 2015, 02:05:57 AM »
Hi, I have two adult chinchillia and recently got a baby chinchillia. The new chinchillia is, understandably, frighten and timid. My adult chinchillas want to get close to the new chinchillia, but the baby chin is defensive . Should I place the new chinchillia in a separate cage until it's more comfortable? Or should I leave the baby in with the adults and hope that they will bond eventually?

Chit Chat / chinchillia play time
« on: December 03, 2014, 02:12:58 PM »
I have two very cute chinchillas. I let them out, periodically, to play and have their dust bath. I noticed that one of the chinchillas is timid and shy. It would only leave the cage briefly before returning to its cage. So I would let them out, then close access to the cage, forcing it to stay outside. The chinchilla initially showed signs of stress, but then adapted to their environment. However, this had a negative effect, as they are more prone to remain in their cage, than to go out and explore. What are your experiences?
