Yay!  :::grins:: I am so happy for your success at the show!! I didn't realize how well you had done until the very end because I forgot what numbers you had  Ann did a wonderful job judging with detailed explaination for the clueless people in the audience like myself. Hehe.

Maybe he's experiencing "stage fright"?? My chinchilla Chloe wont take a dust bath in front of anyone but me.  :blush2:

Have you considered getting a gravity feeder? This way the chins can individually eat when they're hungry, rather than waiting for you to put food in the cage and fight over it.

Lonestarchinchillas.com has a 2 lb option of apple sticks but they are a little on the pricey side.

Hi there! I don't know if you've purchased a new wheel yet, but I have the 11" wheel called the "Chin Spin" which Chloe LOVES! Its well made and there isn't anywhere for the whiskers to get caught as the whole unit spins. It comes in sizes 11" or 15". If your chin is bigger than 650 grams I would recommend the 15".  The website is www.qualitycage.com and they ship worldwide. Good luck!

Q & A / Whole Grain Supplement??
« on: October 03, 2008, 07:15:25 AM »
Hi all!

Yesterday my dust bath order came with a free sample of whole grain supplement (from Lonestarchinchilla.com). It LOOKS good, but I wanted a second opinion. Does anyone feed this to their chin? It consists of oats, Calf Manna, Animax, Milo and a mixture of other seeds. The directions say to give 1 tsp daily to an adult chinchilla. I just wanted to make sure it's safe...especially the seeds part.  ???

Thanks!
Nicole

Just an update: Checked on Chloe last night and this morning and everything seems to be fine. She's acting like usual, but I'll still be keeping a close watch.

Health / Ate an M&M!! HELP!!!
« on: June 29, 2008, 08:04:06 PM »
While Chloe was out for playtime she found an M&M someone had dropped and took a bite out of it!  I force-fed her water via syringe in hopes to dilute some of the sugar. I don't know what else to do ::scaredspeachless:: Should I take her to the vet?? Please help!

Chit Chat / This is why my chin is AMAZING!
« on: June 18, 2008, 04:15:59 AM »
Ok, so I work at a local hospital and my shift starts at 7am. Yesterday I my alarm went off at 6am but I turned it off and went back to sleep. Then, at 6:30 I woke up to Chloe barking at me! What a smart girl...Every morning after my alarm goes off I get up and say good morning to Chloe (she's always awake too) and I give her a good scratch behind her ears. Yesterday I didn't get up (I went back to sleep, haha), and Chloe was expecting her scratch and barked at me to wake up. If it weren't for her, I would have been late!

Just thought I'd share this! I'm sure you all have amazing stories about your chinnies...please share them with us.  :)

Q & A / Re: Nipping
« on: June 14, 2008, 10:29:46 PM »
My chin used to do this too! But I put an end to it by picking her up by her tail whenever she nipped my arm. I would only do it for a couple seconds (I know breeders handle their chins this way but to me it looks like it would hurt) and I would say to her in a firm-but-non-yelling tone, "Chloe, that's a no-no. I know you want down but you hurt my arm when you bite me."  ::nono:: Then I would go back to holding her and if she nibbled me again I would hold her by her tail and give my speech again. Eventually she got the idea.  ;) I try not to hold her for too long because I know how much she enjoys running around my room, jumping off her boxes!
Also, maybe your chin didn't like the position you held her. It took me a while but I realized that Chloe is most comfortable on my shoulder, peering over my back with my hands supporting her back legs. She really loves being petted once you get her in the right position!  ::wub:: Also, I give her a peice of a raisin every time I take her out and hold her so she associates being held and petted as good.  ::silly:: Now she practically hops into my lap to come out because she wants her treat! It takes time and patience...
I'm not a chinchilla expert or anything, but hopefully these ideas help. Maybe someone with more experience has some suggestions?
