why don't you get him neutered? that way they can live till the end of time together without her having continuous potentially ill bred babies.
Before I knew the damage I had caused with breeding my chinchillas I would have kept them together, but my kits ended up being put to sleep at nine months due to genetic malo, was the worst time of my life.

I total agree with what people are saying here... I had a perfectly healthy 5 year old chinchilla whom I bred with what seemed a perfectly healthy 2 year old.. this resulted in quads.. one is which died at birth, not only did I have to take alot of time off work to help feed them, but i also paid a lot of money on tests and had to put the one I kept to sleep at 9 months old  due to malocclusion.. which was genetic. I had never even heard of this before he had got this, initially he was treated for an eye infection before he had a CT scan and they discovered  his teeth roots had grown into his eyes! The only signs of this agonising disease was a very slight eye discharge and weight loss.
My point is unless you have a pedigree line you won't know if they have genetic malo in there, breeders are trying to get rid of all the horrible things out there and back yard breeders (like I classed myself as) are messing up the hard work they do to protect the bred.

No pedigree lines means pet only unless you don't care if you bred an animal which will potentially die from an early painful death

I use a cat carry box to move them around with, after one of my chinchillas had a nasty accident after he jumped from my arms, I leave the lid open in the bathroom whilst they are running around and when it gets near to them going back I wait for them to jump into it and shut lid.

yeah I checked they all have their male bits.. will definitely not get any more.. the Fiancée is going to flip when I rock up with them anyway.. he knows about the pink white (3rd baby) but not about his brother (4th baby) hence their names.. Ace as it was ace I was allowed a 3rd and the 4th now named Magic haha.. ta da magic there is a 4th

males and females will spray you with pee if they are scared.. just go really slowly with them and let them learn to trust you.. you won't look back after you buy them, They are so funny to watch going mental bouncing around and when they learn that you love them..they love to be tickled on their bellies and behind their ears..so cute!
Do alot of research into the person you buy them from as malocclusion is all too common with people who bred chinchilla's without researching the parents back grounds.. I learnt this the hard way after putting to sleep a 9 month old baby..then a 1.5 year old a few months later

I would make sure you weigh him weekly as if he knocked his teeth it may cause the roots to grow funny and he will start to lose weight due to pain whilst eating (this may happen months down the line). Hopefully he will be fine and has just shocked himself but its better to be cautious.

Q & A / bonding 4 chinchillas....

Hi I recently lost my 9 year old boy leaving behind his 6 month old friend so I brought his 3 month old half brother, They are very slowly starting to tolerate each other whilst out for a little play time (only 10 minutes or so) the older one Scamp initially lunged a few times at Pickle but that has stopped now and they have started the dominance humping... I know this is all part of the process into hopefully bonding... BUT I was won over by some twins who had just been born and are due to be old enough to come home in September.. my question is has anyone had quads living together before?? I know they live in hundreds in the wild and  my cage is massive and easily big enough for the 4 and I have extra water bottles, food etc but I just wondered once the other two are bonded will they except another 2 babies??

had our CT scan done today and discovered that he had really bad mallo in his molars that couldn't be seen without the scan, ive had to let my beautiful boy go to the rainbow bridge. I will never forget my gorgeous cuddly little man , he was my 1st chinchilla and made me fall in love with them.

I do know how he broke it.. he jumped out of my arms and hit the floor.
He is having a CT scan on the 8th june and then going for an op to remove teeth if CT scan doesn't show up anything else. every time he picks up food and goes to nibble on it he wipes his mouth so obviously still in pain. I have tried everything the vets have suggested so looks like its down the the specialist now.
I can't stop crying as it's all my fault for not holding him tight enough

yes my chinchilla has a broken bottom incisor tooth, due for a CT scan on the 8th and depending on results The Bristol Zoo exotics specialist vet is going to remove the tooth possibly teeth. They have already tried metacam and tramadol to help with pain and get him eating alone but it isn't working so looks like I have no other options 
The pulp is almost exposed so the poor little man must be in agony.. this will be my 3rd exotics vet and i am now at the highest level I can get to. This is going to cost me 500 pounds and I don't even know if I will have a chinchilla at the end of it

you can see the pulp the whole way down the tooth from top to bottom.. it just hasn't gone right through to it yet as she said its still hard and pulp is soft.
The exotic specialist vet told me to feed him kale?? that's the only reason I started.
His weight is sat at 600 grams at the moment so they said that they are happy with that weight and to see if they can get him comfortable enough eating only hard food and hay
I am 99.9% sure his roots are ok currently as he is showing no other symptoms of malo plus he is 9 years old so think it would have shown up way before now.
He is a very happy bouncy chin with no dribbling, eye issues, and no rapid weight loss so think it's currently being managed.. have vets again wednesday to discuss further treatments.
I had a malo chin put to sleep a few months ago so wouldn't hesitate if I thought that this wasn't fixable and can't be managed until a cure has been found.

today he has had CC this morning, metacam and a tiny bit of CC just to get his tramadol into him.. they appear to make him abit sleepy so I have put various food around his cage nearer to him to encourage him to eat.. so far he has picked at his small pellets and some of his dried treats (twigs, dry grass type stuff) and a little kale, no hay yet but this seems encouraging.
Fingers crossed the tablets help him to start eating again as I am very reluctant to operate on him to remove teeth.
I am hoping that his tooth will grow back.. even though one vet thinks otherwise.

The issue is that he isn't eating much hard food at all now only his kale and CC so they think that if they pull the bad tooth then he won't be in pain once that is healed. I am so scared about him having an operation but it will be a zoo/exotic specialist that would be doing it and he has done it alot of times before.
I am also worried about the tablets he is on as I've had to take them before and they made me feel very horrible and sick!
The vet has said that it hasn't broken down to the pulp but very close hence that it hurts so much.
She also said he is on the skinny side of healthy so they aren't worried about his weight at the moment.
He hasn't had any xrays.. just the pain medication so far and watching to see how he deals with it.
It's all so stressful at the moment
