how much would it cost to ship a chin to australia and what would be required?

First you need to be sure they are legal.  It was my understanding that they were not allowed in that country.  If they are now allowed you need to learn the quarantine rules and be sure it will be safe for the chinchilla (cool temps right from the plane)  If all is well then you need to check with the airlines.  Be sure there are no layovers or changing of planes.  If so be sure the outside temp is safe for chinchillas.  Night trips are safer due to cooler temps.  Some airlines won't accept chinchillas as they are considered an exotic.  Each airline price will be a little different.

Wow, that would be pretty stressful on a poor chinnie. That is a long way to travel!
