Thanks everyone. I am back home now. I still can't believe it. She was my father's mother. She was 92 years old so I guess it was time but this lady was healthier than all of us and anyone who met her was shocked when they heard her age. She walked a mile a day right up until the day she died. In fact, when we went to visit we couldn't keep up with her! She took no medications at all and had no health problems. The only time she was ever in the hospital was when she had babies. She still drove everywhere she went. I guess in a way it was a blessing how it happened. She was VERY independent and would never have been happy if she had gotten to the point where she couldn't take care of herself.
The day she died she had gone to the doctor because she had a cough. He thought she was getting pneumonia but said she just needed meds. They think that she was sitting on her bed when she died as she was found on the floor as if she had just slid down from a sitting position but her bed had not yet been slept in. They think she has a bad coughing spell that put her heart into a bad rhythm which killed her. They think it was really sudden and we hope that she didn't realize what was happening and just passed out.
I would have preferred it had been in her sleep but at least she was healthy and independent right up until the end. I think I am still in shock and I don't think I really believe that she is truly gone. I think I am still living in the world of denial.
Wow, I guess this is getting a little detailed but I guess I just needed to get it all out there. She was such a great lady.
