So this is premature, but I want to make sure I do everything I  can to help my new littel guy adjust. Herby didn't get the best preparation; I bought the cage when I bought him and attempted to put it up with him held up under a basket. Not the best, welcome to your new home, but he took it like a great champ
Now I'll be bringing him home a friend in about a month, give or take, and I want everything to be the best it can for both chins.
Should I put him in the same cage as Herby or use another one once I first get him? Should I keep both boys held in their cage(s) the first night or let Herby run free? Any adivce or help would be AMAZING!

hi sarah,

its good practice to always first keep them separate, in another room, in case anything was ever wrong with the new chin, you wouldn't want your others to catch anything..

when you do bring him into the same room, you have a chance they might not get along, so what you should do is put him in another cage and keep them side by side so they can get used to each other, but can not fight.  as for how long this should be done, that i am not sure, sorry... then after a bit you can see how they do with a playtime together, but be prepared to stop a fight just in case ... you don't want anyone to get hurt.

one thing you do need to realize tho, is that they may not be able to be caged together.. i personally like to be prepared for the worse, then you can't be dissappointed.. but if it works out GREAT!!!!  good luck

I agree it is best to be prepared with another cage.

thanks that's what I was most worried about, I do have another smaller cage for him and I'm going to talk to the owner about taking him back if it doesn't work out. I don't have the resources, time, or cage to take care of two chins in diffrent cages.
Also I wouldn't be able to keep them in diffrent rooms, but I could probably keep them on opposite sides of the room and have the second one up off the floor....

If the new guy is a young kit you should be OK.
Adding a kit is easiest as babies are not old enough to have learnt they can fight for head of the heard.

right now he's almost 7 months i believe, not sure the age range that they are still considered kits still soo..

Well it's easier when they are under 4 months, after 6 months they get a little more aware of whom they want to live with

So I found out he is 5months old and the owner is perfectly willing to take him back if it doesn't work out.
Alas i can't keep then in diffrent rooms, they stay in my room and the folks are NOT willing to house them anywhere else Are there specific things I can be looking out for, to catch as soon as possible that would mean the worse?
I don't plan on letting them have any interaction together for at least a week(probably longer just depends on how fast the chin settles). That way I have a decent idea on what to expect the newbie to do and can check him over pretty good, also he'll be very familiar with me. 
Any other advice anyone could offer?
