Iced water for chinchilla?
« on: September 11, 2010, 01:20:28 AM »

hi guys i have a question. is it ok if i put ice in my chinchilla's water bottle? I just thought he would like it when it's a hot day. Is there any risk of making him sick in doing that?
Thanks,
Tiennie

I suppose there is no risk but it really won't help cool him down either. Ice water doesn't lower your body temperature at all

what about using a chinchiller, you can even put it in the frig to cool it off more before going in the cage, you can also cool their dust in the frig then let him take a bath.. or you can put some ice in a bottle but seal the bottle up with fleece [for the condensation] and he can lay next to it to keep cool.. i have never done that one, but i have heard people talk about it before.

as for the ice water,  i wonder if that woudl be okay.. i mean think about if you drank really cold water when you were really hot, doesn't it bother your stomach, it does me, but maybe i'm just weird... lol.. but anyways, what if that happened to them

I took a suggestion that someone on here gave me when it came to keeping my chinchilla cool. I used the tiles.
In stead of spending $8.99 on one chin chiller tile, you can go to HomeDepot or Lowe's and get 5 stone tiles (same size) for $5.95.
My chin, Gallardo, looooooves getting a cool tile. He rolls around on top of it and rests his little head on it when he sleeps!  :)

The tiles are a great idea. I wanted to get another marble thing but didn't want to spend $10 on one.

I never thought to put there dust in the fridge.
