Poop Question
« on: April 24, 2011, 08:38:36 PM »

Hey everybody, we just rescued two new chinnies about 3 weeks ago. Of course, at the shelter, they were giving them the food with all of the treats right in it (not Mazuri)  ::tickedoff:: Anyways, after picking all of the treats out and giving them just pellets, we have noticed that there is something peculiar about their poop. First, they are both pooping a lot, but one of the chins' poop is not hard if that makes sense. If I were to take poop from our third chin, and squeeze it, it does not squish. However, if I take a poop from our other chin, and squeeze it, it squishes. We noticed it, because they stand on top of their house so much, and they had squished some of the poops. For the last three days, they have been on a hay and water diet, and we are thinking about switching them right to Mazuri after tomm. Is this a good idea? Is the "squishy" poop even really a problem? Thanks a lot.

A lot of poop is due to nerves.  The soft poop is probably nerves too.  Burn a piece of toast till it is black and give him about a 50 cent piece size.  This should help the poop.  Wean them onto the new food over a week.  No sudden change since one of your chinchillas is already having digestive issues.
