Cages - Good or bad?
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:09:06 PM »

When looking a cage to buy is there any brands that might be better or worse than others? I'm still researching chinchillas and am starting to look at types of cages. I know levels are important  as well as size. Is there any brands of cages to not buy or to conseider more than others?

Critter nation, ferett nation, quality cage company, fiesty ferrett.

Those are the top quality cages. I personally own two quality cages.

I would say at least 2 levels and get a cage that is strong enough to hold  a wheel like the chin spin from quality cage company.

Do not get one from a pet store they are generally crap.

I would also suggest AZ Chins cages (if you are in the US or Canada). http://chinstore.azchins.com/Cages.htm
Those cages are long lasting and well made cages. I have quite a few friends in Canada here who have her cages and they love them more than the ferret nations (although I am partial to those cages too and do own one!). She will ship a cage anywhere in Canada or the US.

Any cage you decide to purchase, if it has wire shelves or plastic shelves, you should either cover them with fleece or you should replace them entirely with wooden shelves.

A chinchillas toes could easily be caught in the wire and they could ingest the plastic (but PVC is fine).
