Is my noisy a/c going to be a problem?
« on: September 02, 2013, 12:07:13 PM »

Hi!
I have been wanting a chinchilla for a while now and have been doing a lot of research. I know they need cool temps and my house is always hot in the summer months so I went and bought a portable A/C for in my bedroom and it seems to work awesome. But my question is, I have to keep the a/c on at all times to keep it cool and its a little noisy, will the noise from it bother the chinchilla? Or will it be fine?

Several of us use portable air conditioners and have not had problems with that. Just don't let the air blow onto the cage and you should be fine. I have a big one that is pretty noisy and my chinchilla is not bothered at all by it.

I'm a programmer not a chinchilla breeder. I learn by asking questions just like you.

Also, keep in mind that if the air is on all the time there is a chance that the air will be pushed around the room until it does hit the chins which could cause problems. Im not sure what everyone else does but i tend to only leave my air on for an hour at a time and then turn on again if needed.

The room i have my chinchillas in is not exactly big though and it is a square room. I have the air blowing on the opposite wall and have stood where the chinchillas cage usually is and the air definitely gets pushed around until it hits them which ina  sense is the same thing as a breeze. I move the chins away from all walls now when i have the air on.
