Not eating pellets...
« on: December 05, 2006, 02:40:16 PM »

Roo normally eats better than my other 2 chins, but last night he did not eat many of his pellets and no hay. The hay was a new bag and it is really soft compared to the last bag and the pellets are the same as always. I took him out and let him play in the bathroom for a little wile and he seems fine. Running and playing like normal. His poop looks normal and everything seems ok. I took the hay out of the hay rack and put and hand full on one of his selves. He picked threw it and ate a few pieces. The hay looks and smells fine to me but should I get a new bag? My outher 2 chins are eating it like normal but Roo isn't. I'm just not sure if he is just that picky about the hay or if something is wrong.  ::shrug::

Keep it available to him.  It may smell a little different, which could be putting him off.  If he doesn't start eating something soon, you may need to get more hay just to keep his digestive tract moving.

He did eat some of it last night, but I have ordered some from a different company. Hopfully that will be better.

Is he eating his pellets?
How about treats?
I find if they are sick they turn up their noses at treats.
If it's just a bad day or a chin being picky he'll still eat what he likes most. ::nod::
I know something is wrong if they won't eat a raisin. ;)

I gave him a raisin last night and he took it. He also ate the supplement, but if he is eating the pellets it is just a few. I just went home for lunch and he was up playing so I added another hand full of hay for him to pick threw.

Monitor the amount of pellets he's eating by giving him a measured out amount and then measuring what you remove the next day or that night or whenever you change it out.  It's much easier to monitor the amount of pellets being eaten than it is to measure the amount of hay.
