Help!!!

OK, one of my recently born kits is turbo-aggressive!  She beats up on her siblings and won't let them nurse, and she has bitten me a couple of times.  I have tried feeding her and keeping her full, hoping she would calm down, but no good.  I really don't want to separate her from the group, as I don't have any other chins to foster her.  Any ideas?

I think you're doing the right thing by removing her and hand feeding her so that her siblings can nurse.  The more used to being hand fed she becomes, the more she'll stop biting and fighting the feedings, most likely.  When you're not hand feeding her but you still want to have her separated so the others can eat, you can "foster" her with Dad or another chinchilla that you think would keep her warm and take care of her.  Best of luck on a difficult situation!   :(

::silly::I would separate her completely from the other kits ... rotation time!
Kits/siblings can kill and/or damage around the mouth/nose area can keep a kit from nursing because it is so painful.  When this happens the kit can starve to death ... I would weigh them at least twice a day to keep an eye on any possible weight loss.

And a foster mom or daddy like ChinchillAZ said.

How is Jamie doing?  I would greatly appreciate a picture of her.

Thanks guys for the advice.  I tried having one of my best moms, Cybil foster her, but all she would do is stomp on the poor little thing!  I am going to give dad a try today and see how he does with her.

Jamie is doing well.  Her heart murmur comes and goes though, so we are monitoring her closely.  Of course, she will not breed again.  But she is keeping my little orphaned sapphire female company.  The two of them cuddle all day long.  I will be happy to send you a picture, as soon as I get the chance.

I put the baby in with her father, and he went right to cleaning her and laying on her to keep her warm.  What a great dad!  Thanks again guys!

Fantastic!  I've had a lot of success with having Daddy care for kits as well.  :)
