Is she homo beige?  Homo Beige chinchillas have a blueish ring in their eyes.

Honestly the only time I use eye color to help determine color is with homo vs hetero beige. I have never heard of it to determine beige vs. tan.

Here is a picture of a homo beige eye

Thanks Abby & Jamie!  I guess we'll call Sahara & his kits beiges.  Their bellies are all lighter than their backs but like abby said not white like a standard's belly.
My dark tan from Jamie has dark hair on her belly pretty consistent with her back.

The blue eyed thing is very cool.  Must be a recessive gene like you said.  We don't breed any here so could'nt answer your question but someone else will be able to.

The pregnant momma we have was a very recent rescue.  We have gotten so many calls already this summer from people needing to give up their chins.  We have only taken in 7 chinnies here, but we are trying to help these other families place their chins in appropriate loving homes.

The red eye tells me there is a beige gene in there. A flash light in the eyes helps too.
Just a small one ;)
The hetero beiges look much like the standards only beige. They have the same barring in the hairs, and a white or much lighter belly.
Homo is much lighter but you can still see a light barring, and white belly.
With the tans they are much more of a solid color , and it carries right around the chin, belly and all.
Just my way of putting it so customers get it.
Love the pics Jamie.

Well Jamie, I suppose she could be homo beige but I don't think so.  We do have a homo beige and she is very light all over compared to the blue eyed girl.
