Roo's fur bitin?
« on: February 25, 2008, 12:25:36 AM »

hey guys, just when i thought i had the hang of Roo, he switched it up. A few weeks ago he bit all the fur off his butt area off, i took him to the vet & the vet said it seemed like it was nutritional. He didn*t start until we tried the hay cubes. So i switched him back to his regular timothy hay. He*s wasnt biting it all the way to the fur but after the vet freaked him out he did. You can tell its growing back though. I noticed hes chewing it off in a few places on his back he hadn*t before. Is he still adjusting & trying to get the old hay completely out of his system? He doesnt act like he*s hurting, hes running & jumping & being Roo. If anyone could help I*d be so greatful!

Thanks in advance

~Leslie

There are a lot of reasons for fur chewing. It can be genetic, stress related or diet related. there isn't much you can do about it except make sure that he has a balanced diet and you try to keep his enviroment stable and as stress free as possible

I've recently met my first fur chewer.
A rescue brought here from Onatrio, standard gray with awesome color.
Question;
        Can this be corrected?

If stress is removed will the chin stop chewing?

This one seems to have stopped for now and the fur is growing back nicely.

Is it somthing one would have to deal with for te life of the chin? ::think::

When it is stress related it can be fixed. I doubt it if it is genetic. I rescued a little lady that had chewed her tail fur down so short. She has been here for a few months, and now the fur on the tail has grown out.
