quick question about toys
« on: August 25, 2012, 12:15:51 PM »

http://www.chinchillas2shop.co.uk/

This website has some really cool toys for chins but they use different thinhs like pear, starfruit, loquat etc...
I was wondering if these are safe? Obviously its a website dedicated for chins so i would assume everything is alright. Can anyone confirm before i buy a bunch of stuff...thank you. I know obviously apple and willow is alright but as far as some of the others ive never seen mentioned when talking chin safe wood/toys.

Yeah i know the retail stores sell chinchilla safe treats and toys that arent...up until this point ive only stuck with willow balls and sticks and rose hips along with pellets and timothy hay.

I don't know if they are safe, I would avoid anything with holes that may be big enough for them to stick their heads into. They may get stuck and if it's not bendable you may not be able to get them out. I'd also avoid color, you never know if the dyes are toxic to chins. The color is really only for us anyway, a chin really only cares that it's tasty and sometimes not even that.

You can always ask what kind of dye is used on toys.  ;) I do "somewhat" know of the owner of the shop though... and I do not believe they would use unsafe dyes on the toys or use anything unsafe for chinchillas.  ::nod::

I've been warned so many times against it... If you trust the person then go for it, sadly I don't know anyone who makes the toys around here and most of them are just mass marketed petco products so I'm very, very cautious when buying mine.
You're very lucky to at least kinda know the person. But as I said... Our chins don't care, as long as it's chewable.  :::grins::
