Burt toast is for diarrhea. Your chinchilla has the opposite problem.  A few extra raisins should help depending on the cause. If it gets worse you might want to see a vet.  What is he eating?  Good healthy food with lots of hay should keep your chinchilla regular. Poor food/hay with low fiber could be a cause. Too much paper (such as toilet paper rolls) can cause problems.  So can any plastic ingested if you have plastic items in the cage.  These can cause a blockage with would require a vet.

With that said, sometimes chinchilla  poo will just change from day to day depending on how much they have eaten and drank.  Keep an eye on it if non of the causes I mentioned above seem likely hopefully it will back to normal tomorrow.

I gave him a TP roll last night and he chewed it but i think he ate it because it*s not in the cage. Should i not give him the TP rolls anymore? he loved it though. I changed his food to ''fiesta'' chinchilla blend, it was more exspensive i thought it was better than the other crap they had there, i ordered him some mazuri food saturday, just waiting for it to get here. he*s been drinkin alot lately..thanks for the help..

The TP roll very well could be it.  If he is eating the whole roll overnight I wouldn't suggest giving one very often. You might consider giving him one for a short amount of time and then taking it out.  Or cutting one tube into several smaller rings and give him one one of those.

I've found a little bit of meadow hay sometimes helps with constipation. It has no nutritional value as such (chins need timothy and alfalfa) but I sometimes give it to them as bedding and it seems to get their systems moving. :)

It could most likely be the TP roll. Maybe you could stop giving him TP rolls for a while and trying something not as... solid. (Also, I use the "Fiesta" blend, too!)

Roo's all better. i stuck the roll back in and he was ok with it kinda pushing it around and trying to stand on it, he didnt eat alot though. haha guess he's like a baby & learned it hurt him the 1st time not to repeat. the raisins worked great. i got him some rose hips, pear branches, more pumas rocks, dried cranberrries. he doesnt really like the cranberries that much, the rose hips alittle.

I would be careful with the Fiesta blend. It has too many treats in it. Chins will pick the treats out sometimes and not focus as much on the pellets. You might want to try Mazuri pellets. That is one of the better brands that I have been able to find at the pet store. Good luck!

I would be careful with any Kaytee feed.  Kaytee feeds use ethoxyquin.  Ethoxyquin has been linked to cancer in small animals. Additionally, ethoxyquin is listed as a hazardous chemical by OSHA and as a pesticide by the USDA.

::silly::  Any chinchilla food that contains extra treats ... often called 'deluxe' or 'mix' ... is the worst possible thing to give your chins!

They are like little children ... if you set a bowl of ice cream in front of a child and a bowl of spinach ... if they have their choice ... which would they choose ... the one that tastes the best or the one that is better for them???

Treats are just that "treats" and should be given as such.

On my list of Chinchilla pellets/food ... Kaytee is at the very bottom ... I would not give it to a chin even if I did not like the chin (which is impossible ... they are all adorably loving).

When a chinchilla is sick, the vet will often take all extra food away from them and put them on hay and water only (Alfalfa or Timothy hay), until they are better.   A chinchilla can survive on hay only.  Personally, I would give my little ones hay only, if I could not get the Traditions, Mazuri or Oxbow Chinchilla Food.

I am glad you have the Mazuri on order.  Mazuri Chinchilla Pellets/Food is a good quality chinchilla food.  Traditions and Oxbow are two others that are at the top of my list that are good for a chinchilla.

Glad to hear your little one is doing much better!   ::nod::

I give my chins live bacteria yogurt twice a month to keep their digestive systems in tip top shape and it works great.
