How would you describe a chinchilla?
« on: April 26, 2008, 04:04:13 PM »

Isn't it weird how many people have no idea what a chinchilla is?  I often find myself explaining what a chinchilla is, and it's kind of difficult!  They're really strange little animals.  I find myself comparing them to rabbits, bats, mice, buffalos (the neck thing)..... how do you describe them?

I always say they are the size of small bunnies, have a bunny face, mouse ears and a squirrel tail.

I say they are like giant, super furry mice with squirrel tails and rabbit feet and faces.
Or, the most awesome creatures in the world. I mean I love my rabbits, I've loved them since I was 3 years old and owned them since I was 11 and I've only known and owned chinchillas for two years but even so they are equal in my eyes and that is really saying something for me. :::grins::

No one ever knows what a chinchilla is and always end up explaining. I took off work to pick up Chloe and my boss was like, "Cool, good luck picking up your new dog!" haha.
I always tell people a chinchilla is its own species, but it looks like a small bunny mixed with a squirrel and has the softest fur of any animal in the world! ;)

I say they're a cross between a rat and a rabbit.  And super cute!

I have to agree with Sweetnessheart, I always say that they are the Platypus of the rodent family-- part bunny, part mouse, part squirrel.   ::nod::

The ears of a mouse, tail of a squirrel, feet of a kangaroo, and the softest fur you could ever imagine!  :)
