Hellooo :P
« on: March 12, 2009, 09:44:28 AM »

Hi! I'm new :) I own a chinchilla called Barney (there's my name figured out :P) and he is about 14 months old! He is grey  :::grins:: I was taking some photos of him earlier and then a worry rushed through my head: - "Omg what if I've just blinded him with the flash?" 'cause the shots were reasonably close up, I did a really close one and I think I turned the flash off at that point. Do you think I've blinded him? Sorry really random question!

Anyway, I'm 12 years old with a 'lil zoo! 3 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, 1 Chin, 2 hamsters and 6 fish  :::grins:: Love them all to bits!

I hope you can answer my question with the answer I want :P Nice to meet you all x

::silly::   Welcome to the Chinchilla Club!

Probably not, only a vet could tell you for sure ... or if you see it start bumping into things or missing things he usually jumps up on, but does not now.  It really depends on how close you were and how strong the flash was.   Just remember not to do it again.  Chinchillas are nocturnal and do not like bright lights, so he might be a bit miffed at you for doing it.  :)

I'll keep my fingers crossed!

My sister is doing an animation project on my little family of chinchillas and had to take a lot of pictures of them, she wasn't too close but she did use the flash and they didn't seem to mind, no side effects apart from trying to eat the camera. It's not something I would recommend doing a lot.
