Thanks Jo Ann...yeah...I showed my husband a Waterland Tub...and he was mortified...IT WAS UGLY!  ::) If you check out the link...scroll down to the bottom of the page. It will show one on a table they make for it...My husband was like...We aren't putting THAT in our house! Son's room or not...it's UGLY! So he built the turtle table and stained it to match our son's dressers wood finish.

My husband is a general contractor...so he's defiantely good with wood. But he will pass on plumbing...and finishing drywall work. He has subs that do that...but yeah...he can handle his own around wood.

But he did say...When I wanted to buy two more shelves for the bottom of the cage...he wanted to make something in there instead of those shelves...I plan on showing him this link that I posted before.

I will also let my husband read your post on how to stagger the ledges... ;) I don't want my babies getting hurt.

::silly::   The one your husband made looks 100 times better than the one on that site!

I added to my last post (page1) ... the one with the staggered leaping ledges ... be sure to check back on it ... added a couple of pictures.   :::grins::

::silly::   That's a beautiful table ... your hubby is handy with wood ... good for the chins!!!

That sounds like a good plan to me.   :::grins::

Leaping ledges are easy to make ... In one of our older large cages Bill made a set of 7 leaping ledges and placed them in an upside down "V" arrangement that led up to a 'look out' (the 4-sided hut pictured above) attached at the top of a cage ... the chins seemed to love that.  However you place the leaping ledges, just space them equal distances apart horizontally and equal distances vertically, something similar to this: (but with several bars between each level)

.................__.................
............__.......__............
.......__.................__.......
..__...........................__..

Be sure to get PVC pipe that is at least 5" in diameter ... chinchillas grow fast and you don't want them to get stuck inside of it.  PVC pipe can be easily cleaned and can even be placed on the top shelf of the dishwasher for steralizing it.

Did you notice the cute PVC pipe wrapped with rope "Chinchilla Gym Set" on the same site?   ::thumbsup::

Wood shelves can be cleaned with a hand vac daily. When stained with urined or mashed poop, it's best to take them out, use a vinegar and water solution, let them dry completely, then use some sandpaper on them.  (Good idea to keep a complete extra set on hand to allow plenty of drying time.)

;) Second set of leaping ledges...got it. Making a mental note as I type...as for the PVC pipe Gym Set...it's in my "CHINCHILLA FILE" in my favorites. ::nod:: Defiantely cool...and cheap if you ask me...

That's normal ... women use logic and read instructions ... men do not read instructions and still think "I know what I'm doing, thank-you".     rofl

God bless 'em ... they can be a headache at times, but they mean well.   :)

Mine's a keeper, too.   ;)
