I kinda know what you mean but it would be great if you could post a pictrue of your hay holder.

Here's a link to the one I have... ;)

cadillactaste,

So, you have the Super Pet Veggie Basket? How easy is that to get the hay in there? Do you know if the bell can be taken off. I have my chins in my room and that bell would drive me crazy when I tried to sleep.  ::silly:: ::silly::

Actually the bell on ours doesn't make really a noticable sound...And there is an opening on the top that is bigger than the rest of the wire spaces...I just stick the ball in the hay bag and stuff it...Then pull it back out. They do make hay racks that mount on the side of the cage as well...OK...I just took a look at ours...and yes the bell could be easily removed.

Here's the side of the cage hay holder...

::silly::  The hay holder below will hold hay cubes and loose hay.

It easily made with a little bit of wire, C clamps and a hanger/closing hook.

You leave the last side connected by one side only, to make your "top" to the feeder.

It's best to hook your last piece together with the hook it will hang on. on the side that opens.

You can make the the size you want ... I usually do a 2" square for single chins and a 4" square for pairs.

These can be made with 1" x 1" wire, or 1/2" x 1" wire, or 1/2" x 1/2" wire.

The 1/2 x 1 seems to work the best ... easy to get the loose hay out, but not so easy that you find allot of it falling out.

I like Jo Ann's hay holder better. I'm tried one like the other picture and the spacing of the wires were to big and the hay didn't stay in there to well.

Well mine are babies...and I've contemplated getting the one that mounts on the side of the cage as well...due to my ball is empty come morning...and empty come bedtime once I refill it. So no it's not large enough in my opinion. I will still keep it most likely...unless the wall one holds the hay better. Because they seem to play with it when it's hanging there as well...without eating.

That would be cute to watch. I guess I'll try the wall one then.

Let me know how well it keeps it inside the holder will ya? Though a chin will pull out pieces he then wishes to disregard...so one will always have some on the cage floor.

No matter what I put my hay in I have some chins that will pull it all out and pee on it. ::)
I just put fresh hay in daily, and take out the old stuff. They tend to leave it in the same corner so it's just part of my routine now. All hay on the floor gets tossed every night.

I got a holder that I found in the bird section at walmart. Pets mart had the same one. Its similar to jo ann's. It seems to be working pretty good. I'll try to post a picture soon. It was less than $3.

::silly::   Fantastic idea!!!  :::grins::  A suet feeder for birds is a great idea!   ::clapp::

Caution: Do NOT buy the ones made of cedar.

Both all wire and one that is wire and cedar wood are shown below.   :)

:) I have the one that is all wire. They seem to like it. It does still get the floor though. But its alot better though.

I wasn't sure if it would work or not. I'm glad it does and that you think its a great idea!
