Hello :)
« on: June 12, 2009, 01:09:39 AM »

Well, first off I am new here, and hello! I am an avid pet owner. I currently have besides my chinchillas, a lionhead rabbit, two hamsters, a total of six geckos, and two snakes.

I love my chins, Valentine and Casanova.
Valentine (White Mosaic) was bought from a petstore..he is very stubborn and selfish lol and likes attention

Casanova (Black Velvet) is very shy, but very loving and laid back, and he was a rescue.

here is some photos :)

I have recently found a AZ breeder who has Brown Velvets (I want a BV or a Beige). She is super nice and her chins look very well loved, but I am concerned about the brown velvet I would be purchasing. This is a photo, and he doesnt seem, well, that brown. Is this a normal color? he is young, only 10 weeks, so will he color up? I am asking her too, but I would like to get different opinions :)

::silly::  Welcome to the Chinchilla Club Forum!

I think lionhead rabbits look to cute to be real.    :)

Your chins do not look like the typical rescue ... they are beautiful!

Do you know the pedigree on this little cutie?  That's the only genetically way to know for sure it is a brown velvet (beige TOV).

Yes, that is a normal.  Looking at it the picture, it looks like a typical brown velvet kit.   The brown velvet (beige TOV) will show it's true colors as it grows.  It gets this trait from the black TOV.  You normally see the color in their face only, then the darkening of the color spreads from there over the top of the back.  The front paws should have had a stripe of brown across them when it was born ... sometimes it will fade away and then come back.   Because of the direction of the lighting in this photo, the front paws have a shadow over them.

The brown velvet is the color of my most loved chinchilla over the many years.  Her name was Mocha.   :::grins::

This one looks adorable!

I love the brown velvets and this one you've shown looks awesome for 10 weeks. I'd buy him in a heart beat. ;)
