Questions about chews and toys
« on: December 17, 2009, 08:38:52 PM »

I have been looking at all the chinchilla toys and chews that are offered for people's pets. Before I drop a load on Obi-Wan this weekend  ::greed:: I wanted to get some people's opinions on these fun looking things. All of my animals are spoiled rotten so Obi-Wan needs to get used to the good life.  ::silly:: But at the same time I don't want to get him things that might be bad for him. Treats are strict: one raisin every 2-3 days and maybe 1/2 banana chip after cage changing once a week. Toys, on the other hand, are unlimited for my babies.  :D

knot nibble: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753368&lmdn=Small+Pet
stick ball (nuts removed) http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3155604&lmdn=Small+Pet
nature ball: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751763&lmdn=Small+Pet

Also, can anyone recommend someplace I can get him either a large wheel that won't hurt his spine or a flying saucer? I cannot seem to find one not made of plastic.

Ingram has the knot nibble it he doesnt seem too interested in it. He will push it around and chew it some but he could careless if its there or not.

He does have this though and loves it! http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753325&keepsr=0&clickid=prod_cs he doesnt chew on it that much but he loves running under it and jumping off of it.

He loves this too! http://www.t-rexproducts.com/products/small-animal/chubes-large/ I have it attached to one of the ramps in his cage and he just runs up and down all day and then he will stop and chew it and the climb over it. It was seriously the best $8 ever. You can get it at petsmart too their picture just isnt working online.

These are good too http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753312 one came with my cage and he just loves jumping off of it and even just sitting there chillin out.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Chubes are a must. My ferrets adored them and I know Obi will too. As far as the fiddle sticks I'm kind of wary of products that don't tell what kind of wood they come from. Maybe I'll call the company and find out. Probably just being picky, though.  :blush2: But I would absolutely hate to give anything to Obi that might make him sick in the short or long term. I found a flying saucer at petsmart: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3155602 but I'm relectant to get it because of it being plastic. What if Obi chews on it? K got Obi a herb 'n hay tunnel: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3599388 and some lava rocks today. He said it was a welcome present for Obi.  ;) If Obi likes it then it will become part of his toy rotation in and out of the cage.

I would imagine that the bridge thing is the same wood as the knot nibbler since they are the same company. ::confused:: But if you find out different let me know! I am thinking about getting the flying saucer too. I think Ingram would be ok with it, he doesnt seem to like to chew on plastic. He has an igloo right now and another plastic wheel and hasnt bothered either one. But I do have plenty of other chewables in the cage already. I too went on a shopping spree today :::grins:: I got some lava rocks and he hasnt even touched them so that is a bummer. I found a lava ledge at petco, it is the same thing as the sleeping ledge just made out of the lava rocks. Might get that later. I also got him a ferret hammock. He seems to like to snuggle. So far so good. No bitting or chewing he just sits there and chills.

I was wondering about the hammock. When my ferrets were alive I made tons of bedding for them and I've still got lots of fleece and other materials. I might make up a hammock for Obi tomorrow and see how he likes it. Since I'm online anyway I decided to email the company about what type of wood they use in their products. I'll let you know when they respond. My brother is already telling me that I'm being too picky about Obi-Wan just like I was so picky about my ferrets.  :2funny: I just keep telling him that I don't think a person can be too picky when it comes to the health and happiness of their pets.  ;)
