Stressed because of cage location
« on: March 07, 2010, 03:08:33 PM »

Hi all I am a new Chin owner and so excited to have found this forum!!  I am in love with my little guy, I have had him for about a week now and I have a concern.  His cage is in our main living area because we live in a small townhouse and really there is know where else for him to go!!  I have 2 kids 4 and 6, during the day only the 4 year old and I are home but still it can get noisy with all the normal day to day living.  I don't want this to be a stressful environment for him with all the noise during the day not allowing him to sleep. I called the pet store where I purchased him and they said he was in a noisy pet store all day so he will be fine but I would love to hear from all of you with experience.  Thanks  :::grins::

chins do like to be in places where they can see you pass by and such, but if its very noisy since its the place you are most of the day, it might not be the most ideal. could you possibly put him in a computer room/study? some people keep their chins in a bathroom if it's big enough because for playtime the bathroom is the place that has the least things to chew  ::silly:: personally, i keep my boys in my bedroom because i am in there a good amount of the day but not where i'm constantly making noise so they can rest. though they are nocturnal, i've gotten used to them being up at night  rofl good luck! hope you enjoy him  :::grins::

Hi!  Well our bathrooms are very small, and I have two kids so all our rooms are occupied I did think about my bedroom but my husband is a police officer and sleeps during the day with a white noise machine (4 days out of the week) so that would not be ideal unless the Chin would be ok with the constant sound of rain falling in the back ground hehe.  He seems to snooze ok through out the day but still I know their hearing is ultra sensitive and my son get's loud in his play sometimes or I am doing the dishes etc. So not many options ::shrug::

They get used to your way of life very quickly. I think as long as you're not screaming all day or constantly playing loud music you'll be fine. They do like to know what's going on. ::nod::

Mine are also in my livingroom and it does not seem to bother them in the least. I really feel that they like being around you and it makes them feel safe to hear our voices. I have two girls ages 9 & 4 which the Chin's love, and my 4 years old is on the wild side!!! I think we kinda fit, we keep them awake some in the day and they definitely keep us awake some at night ::shrug::

I had my chins in a room across from a wood work shop for the first 10 years.
They get used to what ever is normal for you.

That said there is always the exception, and they should be observed closely for the first little while.
