Pogo won't stop making the chin nose...really scard
« on: April 03, 2010, 06:47:04 PM »

So about 2 weeks ago pop started to make that chin sound in the middle of the night around 4 or 5 am. He wouldn't stop inless i got out of bed turned on the light and checked on him and made sure he sow me. That lasted a few nights and then he stopped. Everyone time i checked on him he and snowie were fine. Now he started to do in again and he hasn't stopped for about 2 hrs. I'm worried. I don't know what he wants. I'm going out of town in a few days. I'v put more food in their cage, which they still had, gave them a treat and another chew toy. I'v had the cage open also for them to come out and he still won't stop. Is this normal?

yes.. there are different chin noises, so i'm trying to think which one you are talking about.. but yes. they make their little noises,, jamie will probably chime in and say what they all mean.. i'm not sure.. i knwo some are a warning to the others in the herd [like in the wild], and some are just..  well i don't know.. i just call it chatter.. cuold be looking for attention..

but dont' worry about it.. it's normal

Hmmm 2 hours straight, I have not heard that, unless it's just little peeps. Happy churps.
Is a bark, warning type call?

he ended up stopping last night. And it wasn't non stop. I was gone most of today, but he didn't do it tonight. I'm not to sure about all the different sounds. I should have tried to record it. I think it was just a normal sound that they make. I didn't sleep well last night, and i don't know if thats just because i was worried about them. It was also weird bc they didn't want to come out for play time last night and they ushaly can't wait. They came out tonight. They are also eating less hay. I'm not sure if maybe its bc the sun is drying it out. Their cage is under a window. I try to put a flease thing on top of part of their cage. I think that helps some. I'v heard ur not supposed to leave hay in the cage for more then a day. Is that true? Also i hope everyone had a great easter!

if the cage is close to the window, is the sun shining on it?  if it is you might want to move it.  they should not be in direct sun light

and yes i've also heard everyone say, whatever they don't eat the next day throw out the left over hay and food and give them fresh.. and honestly i tell that to people myself.

but do i practice it.. no.. i have way to many animals to be throwing food out every day and they are just fine.. don't get me wrong, i won't let it sit there for days.. i'm just saying i don't empty their dishes EVERY DAY, i'll just add more to them.

as for not eating as much.. some days you will just find left overs and some days you won't  that is normal.

boy has left overs every day, he's my fussy little guy..

the other three tho.. they sometimes eat everthing up and the dishes are empty in the morning and sometimes they don't. :)

i'm out of town now and a always worry about them when i'm not home. Also i don't think  they get direct sunlight, but not sure. But i have something to cover the top of the cage that blocks the sunlight.
