::silly::Hi Chins to Love

    I hope you do not sell them for her ... but you have to do what you feel is best for you ... but, keep in mind ... if you do it "just this one time" ... if you think her pestering you to do it is bad now, next time she knows she can wear you down and do it even worse.

    If you sell them or help her sell them and something is wrong or goes wrong with the kit, eventhough it will not be right, the buyer will come back at you ... because you are an established breeder and they trusted you ... not her.  By selling or helping to sell, you are inadvertently (in the eyes of the buyer) giving your approval and support to this new 'breeder'.   ::phhhhhhth::

I'm morbidly temped to give you my number as an interested buyer just so I can give this lady a peice of my mind for her idiocy and greed.

How dare she try to take advantage of you in this manner.

She refused to spend the money to buy good breeding stock, and when you accomodated her with a rescue as pet she disobeyed your direction to not breed her, this goes beyond ignorance.

Now she wants $150 for her kits? She looked the gift horse in the mouth on this one, trying to profit from your generosity.

Part of me thinks karma will get her in the end, but my heart sinks at the though of the kits that might suffer because of her in the meantime. I agree selling the kits for her will just encourage her.

The Pink White might be OK to breed. You should ask your son's teacher what she thinks about breeding him if he didn't come with a pedigree. Also one of his parents or grandparents should be a standard to follow good breeding practices.

::silly:: Hi FluffBall,

...I am wanting to have a couple of baby chinnies my self but I want to keep them for me I have been given 2 chins a standard that didn't get too much attention but now he is fine and the girl got im from a pet store and the pink white which was given to my by my son's teacher she has both parents and the grandpa there and there are no known health problems from any of his family  would either of them be ok to breed? for me to keep not sell

Anytime you do not know the background on a chinchilla, you are taking a chance of producing kits that have a problem.  Even if you plan to keep the kits yourself.  That's not fair to the parents, or to the kits they would produce.   :-\

 There is no guarantee that any two chins would or would not produce a kit with genetic problems, but, not knowing the background raises the odds against them.   Why push their and your luck to find out?  ???
What if a problem does show-up?  Then you have to separate two chins that have grown to care about each other and separate them forever.  :'(

The standard gray, where did you get HIM do you know his background?  I know the female came from the pet store, but did he also?

With the pink white chin, you know there are no known problems in the immediate background and I think it would be great to breed the pink white, but only to another chin that you know does not have a family history of medical problems.  If you breed her with one you do not know about, their kits could have problems. :-[

Sorry to lay it out so bluntly, but I think you would want me to be honest for their sake as well as yours.  ::nod::

that is true they are both male and you are right I would have to seperate them and they love each other so much the standard I got from a girl who got him from a pet store not sure which one and if I did breed the pink white which color should I use standard cause I remember you saying anything w/ a standard is safe

as for that lady that was told not to breed go take the chin back I would she is just in it to make money and found out you can't

>:( If that lady wanted to breed she should have invested the money and bought a breeding ones, that she knew were safe to breed. It is like those people who now mixing two different breeds together and calling the a pedigree, and they know nothing about either breed and are selling them for 1000 or so.  :flames: Then they end up at the Pound.

::silly::Hi FluffBall,
      Health background is only part of deciding if you want to breed the pink white.
      Do you have pictures of her you could send me and/or post?  If you could get one from above (looking down on her back and head) that would help to know her bone structure ... a side profile view would help ... and a face view.
      How much does she weigh?  (in grams)
      How old is she?
      When you blow into her fur, can you see her skin?
      After you blow into it, how long does it take to go back into place where you can not see where you blew into it?  Lots of questions, hun?   :-[

Hi Chins to Love, has she stopped pestering you yet?

::silly::Hi FluffBall,
    He is a hansom chin.  If you breed him, please do so with a chin that you know the background on, to make sure he can have the best chance at helping to produce some beautiful kits.
    Your pictures  were pretty good ... my instructions were not expressed the way they should have been.  In the overhead shot, looking down at his back and head, I should have told you to be sure he was on all fours on the floor.  What I would have been looking for would have been his over-all shape from above.  (With him stretched out, I could not tell.)  If you can imagine looking down on a brick, that is the way he should look from above and from the side ... the hips and shoulders should be in line with each other and as close to the same width as possible.
     It sounds like his fur is in good shape.   ::nod::
     The ears are to the sides instead of on top, which is good, his nose is a little narrow at the end, but the rest looks great! If it were me, I would find a good blocky standard female, with almost no nose, no neck and good thick fur and see what you come up with.   I think you should get good results.

::silly::You could go either way Standard Gray or Beige.

If you prefer the dark eyes, I'd go standard gray. That would give you a 50-50 chance of standard and/or mosaic kits.

If you like the pink or red in the eyes, I'd go beige. That would give you a 25% chance of each of the following: standard, mosaic, pink white and/or beige.

No matter which way you go, you want to get the chin that is very blocky, little or no neck, rounded face (no nose), and has a good quality fur.

 You always want to improve on what you have by getting as many good traits in each chin as you can get and where there is an undesirable trait ... you want to make sure the other chin does not have the same undesirable trait.

Rule of thumb: If you can not get kits equal to, or better than the parents, you find a better one to mate it to.
