I'm taking him to another vet tom. One that is supposed to be able to set it. I'm afried what the vet is going to say. I'v read a couple things from people that this has happen to and most had to have the leg cut off. But i'm not sure if it was the back leg also. I want what is going to be best for my little guy. I'd like to try the split if the vet thinks its going to work, but i just wonder what the chances are that it would heal.

Oh no what happened? I don't think it will heal on it own. It will have to be set. Sorry this happened to you.

Chinchillas heal very quickly, so if they can set it they should. They are supposed to cope very well with only three legs but I have tried everything to save Cheech's front paw. Pinning is also an option but very invasive surgery. Personally as it's a back leg I imaging they may not be able to do anything but amputate, but I have my fingers crossed for you. If they offer to splint it and put it in a cast try it first. Although Cheech hated the collar she had to wear.

Thanks. They can't split it bc its moved. They have to pin it but they do it with 2 small cuts, instead of opening it all the way up. It was supposed to get done yesterday but they didn't get to him. SO i'm waitng to hear from them today.

surgery went good today. I get to take him home tom, finally.

I got him home today and pogo was soo happy to see snowie and vice versa. The vet said that I should wait atleast a week befor I let Pogo use the dust bath, but his fur already looks soo bad. I was to listen to the vet because I want his let to heal right. But is there another way he could have one, or something he could take to keep his fur nice?

If the vet just did not want him rolling in it, you could rub some on his fur and it will help some at least.  I would not do this in his cage because he may try to roll in what falls off of him.  If he was concerned about the dust getting in a wound I would wait. Good luck!!!

I forgot to post this yesterday. The vet wraped his leg all the way up. Its higher wraped then what it was eariler this week and his foot is a little bit swollen. He said the wrap is on there not tight. His foot should go down, if not i'll have to take him back in. It hasn't gotten any worse which is good but I can't tell if it is getting any better.

Thanks, me to. Also the vet said that i could buy baby aspirin to put in his water, has anyone every done that?

No. I was given metacam. I just give Cheech her dose every day and she licks it of the syringe. I wonder if anyone else has any ides.
