« on: March 09, 2011, 10:23:16 AM »

it's been 1 week and 2 days since my female chinchilla gave breath .
so i have a  question :
i read that after a week should be ok if i put mom and dad together with the kits.
is this ok or i shouldn't put them back together for at least a month ?

you can put the dad in, but do keep an eye on what  he's like with the babies and mum and if mum wants him to be there - it should all be ok but some girls don't want the man back in.

but be aware that she will be able to get pregnant again in about a month time.

I did this with mine and she wanted nothign to do with him.  Acutally during both pregnancies.  A week after the kits were removed( after 8 weeks) she was begging for him to come back.  Each chin is different.  Test the waters with him and the kits, then with him and her, then the group.  I did this in the tub for dust bath time, it gave me an impression of how it was gonna go.  Mine didnt go so well.  Hope yours is better.

Yup I gingerly hold him up toward her first, getting closer and closer and watching for her responce.   ::scaredspeachless::
I have seen females leap from their cages at the dads on some attempts. I wait a few days and try again. You really get to know your animals.
I just put a male back with this type of female and the first try on day 7 and she acted like he never left. she only had one kit this litter.
Her last litter of 3 on day 7 she lunged at the sight of him. She took him back on day 10.

Yes, you should also make sure the kits are more self-sufficient, because the mom won't be able to support her live kits, herself, and whatever develops without drying up.
