Just curious
« on: May 27, 2011, 07:00:58 PM »

Jose is missing a finger. He has been ever since we got him. It's not raw or infected or anything, it's just not there. He won't be still long enough for me to actually look at it and see how much is missing. It doesn't seem to be bothering him or hindering him in any way. Could this have been a birth defect? Has anyone else had to deal with something like this before?

she'll be fine, unless it just happened, you might want to just get it checked out by a vet..

but they do lose fingers sometimes.. poor babies, especially from those unsafe pet store wheels that are wire.

Well I noticed it when we first got him. It was already there before we bought him. They didn't have a wheel in the cage with him, but they did have another chinchilla. Could the other chinchilla have done it?

It is very possible that another chin bit off the toe.  I had that happen here. One chin was out and the other was in the cage, but it can happen even if their cages are just too close together.

I always felt bad that their toys were ton darn tiny -- because of that reason. :(

I guess that's the thing about Jose. I got him from PetSmart, but I'm not sure where he came from before PetSmart. They also didn't know exactly how old he was. They said he was between 4 - 6 months old.
