Dilemma!
« on: February 29, 2012, 08:17:33 AM »

Ok, I don't know what to do... ::shrug::......I want to get my Jose a new home, but I don't know what to get. I want a big one, and I like the Prevue Fiesty Ferret cage, but I'm worried that it might not work. Does anyone have any suggestions or help??? :::(((

I think that it would be great, I'm sure he would enjoy all the levels! I almost got that cage for my chin so I say go for it :) (only reason I didn't is because I found a Ferret Nation on sale hehe)

i have that cage and its fine, it will have to be chin proofed.

i also have a fn142/182, which is a bit bigger, and i love that also, has to be chin proofed.

and i have in the past a quality cage, awesome cages they  have.  expensive but worth every penny.

i do sell the pruvue and quality cages FYI.

I have actually already picked out an overloaded cart full of stuff from your website, including the fiesty ferret cage...  :blush2:.....I just have to push the buy button! Can you tell me exactly what I would need to do and get in order to chin proof the cage?

You'll have to replace any plastic shelving in the cage with wooden ones, which I believe she sells as well! I'm not sure what size you need to get though.

you can put any size shelves in there that you would like.  but yes, pls take out all the plastic shelves.  and to be honest, i'm not sure if i heard it was this cage or another cage, but i heard on one of the ferret cages, there is no more plastic in them, but metal instead, so maybe you'll be okay.. sorry, i just don't know that. oh also, pls do not use the ladders they put in there, unless you cover them.. a chin can get their legs caught in there and end up with ampution if not covered.

as for the cages, i have to check out the shipping price and when i do i will send you an email for the cost, these are actually shipped directly from the company via ups.

thanks so much for giving me a chance, i really hope you are 100% satisfied :)

Do you sell the wooden shelves to replace the plastic ones? Also, what should I use instead of the ladders that come with it?

She does, it's in the house/ledges section. I also recommend to get a pumice or calcium ledge too (I got Lava Ledge). It's good for them to chew on. I think the problem with the ladders are that the space in between each step is too big and so chins can get thier foot caught and fall, which can do some damage. You can replace it with a ramp (my chin loves his ramp!). You can also buy or make bridges, tunnels, or even tree branches to get from one ledge to another, or a hammock in between them, the possibilities are endless :) if you use tree branches research what kind of wood is ok.

hi, chinchilla are jumpers so shelves work great.  what i did with all my cage is put many shelves in and staggered them, up / down.

i do usually care super sleep/ledge, but i ran out, but i do make home made shelves also.

and if the ledge is still that plastic coated stuff, you can also just cover with fleece so it can't be chewed on.

Great news, everything in the fiesty ferret cage is metal AND the ramps are solid with little speed bump looking things, So other than the bottom of the cage, i think it is pretty chinchilla proof when you but it! YAY! But for the bottom of the cage and the second level of the cage, we took the smallest hardware cloth they had and covered them and it works great and the poo just falls right through. So it worked out great!

Awesome :) I didn't know they had metal cages but then again I looked at the ones on sale  rofl
I love my ramp though (I have the same one you do)! What do you mean about the hardware cloth? Could you show a picture if its not a bother? My cage (its a feisty ferret but its not the same as yours) has a solid bottom but yours may be different so I'm just a bit confused but interested :)

If you look in the bottom of the cage, that is hardware cloth.

Yes, that is actually the second level in the picture. I like the bottom because it has a pull out draw type thing so you can clean it out easier.
