::silly::Hi Chinny Girl,

     I'm not a vet, I do not work at a research center for chinchillas, so ... I can not tell you what to do, or not to do with your chin.  That has to be your own personal decision.  I can only say what I would do, if the chin was mine. ::nod::

     I can let you know what I have been told by long-term breeders that have been in it for 10 to 50+ years.  What I have learned from my own chinchillas.  I have over 200 chins and have worked with them for quite a few years.  I studied books about them, read articles about them and searched the internet for a year and a half before I became a breeder and still do.  I have been interviewed and quoted by a writer from Critters Magazine, I have written articles for the Chinchilla Club Magazine, and a booklet on the basics about chinchillas that has been translated in at least 5 different languages.  But what I know now about chinchillas is only a drop in the bucket compaired to I want to learn about chins.  Chinchillas are new to the 'pet world' and new things are being learned about them constantly.

       As one very smart, well known, long-term breeder told me years ago ... "What works for one may not always work for the other". So, you have to decide what you want to do about the scented dust bath.   :-[

::silly::Hi Chinny Girl,

     I just went back over the last post ... sorry if I sounded a little harsh, I apologize.  Jamie has also been quoted by the same writer in the same magazine, she has also written a booklet (it has probably been translated into other languages also), she has studied for years, written many articles herself, she owns the Chinchilla Club and has many chins.

    Basically, what I was trying to say was that this is a place to go to get other people's experiences and advice as to what they would do, if the chin belonged to them.  We are not vets and can not tell you what to do.   We are here to share ... not to tell. ::nod::

My vet told me it wouldn't be good to put them in scented dust because it would give them an infection.  :::(((

Okay I have to add this pic or two or three.  ::)

I wouldn't use scented either, I have seen it in the pet store, but I wouldn't take the chance. :::(((

Double ditto Jo Ann
I tell folks I'll share all I know, but it's up to you what you do with/for/too your chin.

  I've seen to many products state they are OK to use or are even made for chinchillas, then I read the ingredients and it has stuff in it that is not good for chinchillas.  (Example: corn wheels ... pet grade corn is not good for chinchillas)
Jo Ann what's the difference between that corn and the corn meal some ranchers use in their supplement.
MCBA News Volume 44 No 4, Formula 2 has yellow corn meal?
Also I just had a couple sleep over chins{summer vacations} and the owner said she found on the net someone who told her nuts were OK. I told her I wouldn't feed them nuts,and won't give them any while they are here, but it's up to her what she feeds them.
We just never stop learning and sharing.

This is Roo in his bath. I had it beside his cage and he found it before he was suppose to. That is how I get him back in his cage when he don't want to, but that time he got to it to early.
