Introducing Another Chin
« on: June 07, 2013, 07:31:44 PM »

Hi Guys, this is my first post on Chinchilla Club!  :::grins::
I have a male chinchilla named Cheeba and he's almost 2 years old.
I go to school full time and have a job, so I feel like he might be kind of lonely. He gets an hour or two of play time outside the cage every day, so for the other 22 hours a day he's just chilling by himself and I feel guilty for leaving him alone in there.  :'(
What are your opinions, tips, or suggestions on introducing him to another male chinchilla that's about 2 months old?
Have you had any issues doing this with your chins?
I'll take as much feedback as I can, thank you!

Although I've never paired a chinchilla with another this article was the most memorable (to me) on the topic:

I'm a programmer not a chinchilla breeder. I learn by asking questions just like you.

I had 2  year and half, close to to two year old male chinchillas( found out one was female two day ago) and about 5 months ago I bought a 2 month male chinchilla. So far they get along and never got in a fight.

Remember that chinchillas do most of their sleeping during the day so it isn't a problem for him if you are gone a lot during that time.  The longer a chinchilla has lived alone, the more he will resist a new cage partner.  If YOU want another chinchilla then it is worth trying to bond him.  If you think HE wants another chinchilla I would advise against it.  Bringing in a new chinchilla will put a lot of stress on him at first and there is a chance he will not like the new chinchilla.
