Good cheap excercise wheel for a polish chinchilla
« on: August 23, 2016, 02:15:01 AM »

Hi, we were looking for a sturdy cagemounted saucer or wheel/bowl dype excercise wheel for our chins but cant find anygood ones in poland or maybe cheaply imported from china? we look for a silent and sturdy wheel as the chins broke the flat wooden disc before and they realy need some excercise.

DO you have any recommendations?

I wish I could say.
The only wheels I know of are the Chin Spin by Quality Cages and the Steel Flying Saucer (http://www.flyingsaucerwheels.com/) besides the Silver Surfer wheel. I can recommend the Silver Surfer if your chin is around 500g but it is small for a chinchilla wheel.

I've seen wheels on Etsy made of oil catch pans that looked decent but I have no experience there. They seem to get mixed reviews.

This is the one I got from Etsy and I have ZERO complaints.  She's very easy to work with and stands by her work!

Hope that helps!

That's great. I'll try to remember that one specifically. I paid about the same price for a 14" wheel, the silver surfer. It's not a bad wheel but I don't like recommending anything smaller than 15" for a chinchilla. 14 is barely adequate. My chin spin is a great wheel but at twice the price.

The 14 inch silver surfer is fine to use since its an open design (not the normal enclosed circle). The chin can still reach out to full stride so it is running naturally. An enclosed wheel like like the chin spin needs to at minimum of 15 inches

The silver surfer is a normal vertical wheel. Perhaps you are remembering the Steel Flying Saucer wheel.
(link to example below. It's exactly like mine.) Compared to the chin spin the running surface is much narrower and it's an all aluminum design. The chin spin is a way better wheel in different ways but I think the 14" wheel is okay, just not ideal. I've been using the surfer for about for years now and I've had my chin spin for about two (If I remember right). Eventually I plan to upgrade my second wheel to a chin spin for my Spotless.

Kulu started chewing the aluminum one on the edges and then Spot started doing it. It's noisy and chips out the powder coat. I know of a pair of chins another owner had that actually chewed through the aluminum edges. I'm glad mine are not like that! This is not possible with the steel chin spin.
