After adding a few wood pieces, I bent the end of the wire backwards making sure the loop it created wasn’t a size that could catch a paw, and stuck the end back into the bottom hole of wood. I was able to spread the end away from the main wire so that when I pushed it back into the hole it was a very tight fit and secured the toy nicely.
Now I keep a box of spare wood parts in the chin room. Each day as I feed and water I also check the toys to be sure they are secure. As the wood gets chewed away I just have to pull the wire end out of the wood, straighten it to add more pieces, and then tuck it back up. I am able to give my chinchillas a healthy toy and it doesn’t cost much at all.
